The pharmaceutical industry convinced enough legislators in 2003 to forbid Medicare from negotiating drug prices when Congress enacted the law creating Part D drug plans

You mean the Regulations the medical industry lobby for or something else, please elaborate. They have a corporate sponsored monopoly because that is what they want, and our government (with their supposed free market healthcare) are all to happy to oblige. Allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices. Stop the marketing on TV for prescription drugs. Their money doesn't go into R&D much of their expenses are in advertising and CEO bonuses.

I assume they lobby for them. But frankly I don't care. The vast majority of the regulations that create artificial barriers to the market are the reason why companies are able to jack up prices without any competitors being able to jump into the market. It creates an artificially high price point.

I don't care about the marketing though. The prices of prescriptions aren't determined by cost. It's not like they have to raise prescription prices because of the cost of marketing. They are simply doing it to try and make bigger profits. And in a government created monopoly they can do that. Especially with an inelastic good such as medical care.

The only thing I said about the previous election was those folks were wrong. You want to use it to make a point and I agreed it was wrong. I was only discussing this election.

Glad you agree with me. The government caused the monopoly because the companies wanted it, so they can gouge the people. Have huge profits, so they can kick back to the politicians, and create billionaires off of your back and mine.

It needs fixed. Allowing them to continue as is or taking all regulations off of them to allow for unfettered capitalism isn't the answer.

One more thing some in our government were trying to tear down one barrier by allowing us to get drugs from Canada, a surprising number of Republicans voted for that. A surprising number of democrats voted against it. Including my Senator who is on the take. My GOP Senator sided with my democratic Senator to not surprising

I have no idea what this means except you jumped to conclusions. The curbing is for the irresponsible actions of the irresponsible people who should curb themselves much like some of the dialogue you contrived in this discussion.

The topic of the previous election was your justification and I have already told you it was wrong and wasn't part of my commentary. Saying it was legit to my points was for your own benefit to create a sidetrack.

Regulations have made it way too easy for the medical industry to gouge a person. Those regulations prevent most of the checks and balances you might see in a normal competitive capitalist industry. The barriers to entry in the medical field essentially create monopolies that cause prices to go out of whack. There are two thoughts of process to it, remove some of the barriers and you get more competition which would drive down costs. (Basically stop the FDA from creating these monopolies) Or trust the government to take over the entire industry and run it correctly (God knows that would be filled with horrific abuse).

I'm not sure what the solution is exactly. I don't want unsafe medical products out there. But it also shouldn't take 5 years for someone to be able to put a competitive product to the Epipen on the market either. And I sure as shit don't trust the government to run something.

There needs to be sensible reform to billing practices. Right now we have a combination of ridiculous red tape that makes it virtually impossible for medicine to function outside of the broken insurance model. But simultaneously there is no rules on billing whatsoever. If a hospital decides to bill a trillion dollars for an aspirin, that's perfectly kosher.

I agree with a lot of what you say on this but I don't think regulations on drugs coming to market has that much to do with prices.

IMO it's the non regulation on the monopolies that are the issue, allow people to buy drugs from Canada and Mexico and prices would drop significantly.
