Our Education System...

I meant the operating costs of the school. As for salaries, a pension and summers off make up for the (initial) low pay, but I concede the point about unruly classrooms.

Its not just the classrooms. It's the admins pulling you in one direction and the parents in another. Parents dont know boundaries. I dont know how many times they were trying to contact my wife after hours and even the weekends. Then you have the state testing and funding based on that so you really cant teach anything other than the test.

Oddly enough my wife never had problems with the kids.

My brother's wife is trying to talk her daughter out of teaching and I just want to wring her neck. Not that I necessarily want her to go in that field but the reasons she is giving. You are part of the problem that you are giving as reasons not to go in that field.

My wife loved the kids and she is basically the pied piper when it comes to the teens. They flocked to her and even had football players acting as her own secret service. She started up an after school knitting club that even had the football boys joining so they could make their own beanies.

I never once had to worry about her there because the "thugs" loved her. She only had issues with a few of the privileged rich kids.

Anyways. CsB and all but the teachers (that dont want to be just babysitters because I know that there are those) are definitely underpaid.

Yep, my sister has been dealing with all kinds of bullshit. She teaches English at a high school east of Dallas. Teaching is all she has ever wanted to do since she was a kid but the absurd things she’s had to endure the last half decade has her wanting to go back and get her master’s so she can get out of the classroom. Education is fucked in this country. Everyone’s getting dumber and there’s no reversing it. It was headed this way for a long time, but Covid accelerated it.
