RGIII’s college coach thinks the Cowboys are a perfect fit

Baylor coach Art Briles thinks Robert Griffin III’s next NFL stop should be in Dallas.
Briles, who coached Griffin to a Heisman Trophy, said playing for the Cowboys would be a dream come true for Griffin, and a good fit for him from a football perspective.
“You could have a dream. That would probably be making it come true,” Briles said, via the Dallas Morning News. “That would be a great place for him. It’s a great organization; being back in Texas and with the Cowboys and having a chance to get in there under Romo for three years. Not that they need to sell tickets, but it wouldn’t hurt ticket sales.”
That echoes the comments of Troy Aikman, the former Cowboys quarterback who said this week that he thinks Jerry Jones will sign either Griffin or Johnny Manziel to back up Tony Romo. But while Briles thinks Griffin might be a backup next season, he’s confident Griffin will be an NFL starter again.
“He’s a guy who kind of puts his own thoughts out there. He understands perseverance. He understands dedication,” Briles said. “He understands commitment and he’s a guy that has been at an elite level for such a long time a minor setback like this certainly won’t deter any of his plan of action over the next few years. He’s going to end up being what he always could be and that’s one of the best guys on the field.”
If Griffin ends up in Dallas, he’ll be on the sideline as long as Romo is healthy, and he might prefer to go to a team that would give him a chance to start. If he’s OK with being a backup, however, Dallas makes a lot of sense.

Can anybody still support him? Even if he is innocent you are going to have to deal with this all the time because he puts himself in these situations.

The full report hasn't come out yet. Just a FWPD press release which didn't really say anything except his "ex-girlfriend" was concerned for his well-being.

Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel may have felt a little like Ray Liotta in that weird final half hour of Goodfellas.
Via Mark David Smith of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fort Worth police have issued a statement indicating that a helicopter was used to search for Manziel following whatever it was that happened between him and a female on Saturday morning.
The report indicates that a “possible assault” occurred, but that the potential victim (who referred to Manziel as her ex-boyfriend) was not cooperative. The helicopter search apparently resulted from Manziel’s ex-girlfriend’s concerns for his well-being and an inability to locate him through “cell phone numbers associated with him.”
Although no arrest was made, it’s another alarming example of possible misbehavior from a guy who continues to make one bad decision after another. While the Browns surely hope that they can trade him to another team, at some point the only responsible thing to do will be to cut him.

Hopefully he'll get arrested before Jerry has a chance to sign him. Then we can hope RGIII signs with a team that promises him a chance to compete for the starting job.... Then we can actually draft a legit potential franchise caliber QB.

IRVING, Texas -- The potential marriage of Johnny Drama and the Dallas Cowboys could pick up intensity now that the Cleveland Browns have all but said they are ready to move on from Johnny Manziel.
A league source told NFL Nation reporter pat McManamon the Browns will release Manziel in March after the team put out a statement from director of football operations Sashi Brown.
“We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field,” the statement said. “Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Because of Jerry Jones’ public infatuation that started before the 2014 draft -- and has continued since -- the Cowboys are naturally the team most connected to Manziel.
Last offseason the Cowboys were linked to Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, but there were never any serious talks about bringing Peterson to his hometown of Texas, even though the Cowboys had a need for a running back after DeMarco Murray left via free agency.
The Cowboys need quarterback help behind Tony Romo, and they could start the succession plan with a younger quarterback.
Jones has been careful with his words regarding players still under contract with other teams, for fear of tampering.
“You wouldn’t take any time to have any evaluation in that area at all,” Jones said last week at the Senior Bowl.
The Cowboys could find a backup and quarterback of the future just as easily in the draft. They coached Carson Wentz, one of the top three quarterbacks in the draft class, in the Senior Bowl, so they will know him best. Would they take him with the fourth overall pick?
There are many mountains to climb before anybody can know that. As of now, there is no complete draft board. The evaluation process is in its infancy, and taking anything that is said and written as a concrete fact is naïve. What might be true today could be completely false in a few months.
The same could be said about the Cowboys and Manziel, except when the former Heisman Trophy quarterback’s name is brought up in conversations with those at Valley Ranch, heads immediately shake.
Two years ago Jones lost the case to draft Manziel in the first round. The Cowboys took Zack Martin with the 16th pick in the first round and he has become one of the best offensive guards in football. The same people who whistled in the wind when Jones brought up Manziel’s name on draft night remain in the same roles today, from Stephen Jones to Will McClay to Jason Garrett.
Nothing Manziel has done on the field has quelled the fears those around the league had about him when he entered the NFL. In two years he has started eight of the 15 games in which he has appeared. He has completed 57 percent of his passes with seven touchdown passes and seven interceptions. He has a 2-6 record.
Off the field, Manziel has been a headache. Last weekend police were called for an alleged assault in Fort Worth. Police are investigating, as is the NFL.
Playing in Dallas could be the worst destination for Manziel because of the trappings of the area and his celebrity, if not his play on an NFL field.
A backup quarterback has to be reliable. Manziel has not shown that in Cleveland. It’s hard to imagine he would do so with the Cowboys.

That would be former Baylor QB Robert Griffin III, who spent last season with division-rival Washington as the backup quarterback after getting supplanted by Kirk Cousins when Griffin suffered a concussion.
The conversation around Griffin may not have reached the same pitch as that around Manziel, but one of Griffin's former teammates chimed in recently to say where he thinks Griffin will end up: In Dallas, on the Cowboys.
Former Washington tight end Chris Cooley, who played with Griffin during his rookie year in 2012, went on ESPN Radio 980-Washington D.C. to discuss Griffin's situation and shared his assessment.
"I'll tell you where he's going to go: He's going to go to Dallas. He's going to have a conversation with Jerry Jones in which Jerry Jones is going to say, 'I want you, I believe in you, Tony's not going to make it very much longer, he's probably not going to make it this year, and I believe you can do it,'" Cooley said.
"And Jerry will show him more belief than any other owner, and he's going to like that ownership belief, because he's had ownership belief in the past. Not just a GM, not just a coach saying we like you. He's going to like it from the highest level, which is the only place he's going to get it from. The Dallas Cowboys have the only owner that will come and talk to him."
The Redskins benched Griffin, the second overall pick in 2012, in 2015 in favor of Kirk Cousins, who proceeded to have a record-setting season and led Washington to the playoffs. Griffin dressed for only one game last season but didn't take a snap.
Cousins, who will be an unrestricted free agent, is expected to cash in this offseason and re-sign with the Redskins. Meanwhile, the Redskins could cut Griffin as early as Feb. 8, though it could drag into early March. Griffin turns 26 in two weeks.
The fifth-year option on Griffin's contract that the Redskins exercised last offseason calls for him to make $16.155 million in 2016, but the deal is only guaranteed for injury. The Redskins aren't expected to absorb a cap hit of that extent for a backup.

I agree with Cooley. I currently believe RGIII to Dallas will happen. That's Jerry's Cam right there (never mind the fact that has a much thicker build).
Manziel, even if Jerry still is dumb enough to believe in him on the field, there's just too much outside nonsense. The dedication just isn't there.
I don't believe that Griffin will have any starter offers.
My only hope is they still have the sense to draft Goff/Wentz regardless.
