NFL Broadcaster Pat Summerall Dies

Raftery is a color guy though...play by play guys don't seem to have those catchphrase...even Al Michaels' "do you believe in miracles" line was only once.

He didn't need to have one.

He was great in that he could just saw a few words and sum it up without catch phrases.

Count me in the group that hates Gus Johnson. And I'm usually pretty tolerant of bad announcing.
 
One thing was that he always said Emmit's first and last name.
 
I liked how he and Madden meshed. If his career ended with Brookshier...eh...

 
Summerall did have the "None of them are chipshots" thing when Madden would call a FG a chipshot.

One of my favorite calls of his pertaining to Emmitt was on the run where he separated his shoulder.

It was the trademark Summerall call: "And Emmitt Smith......." followed by silence until he's tackled.

It's at the 34:45 mark:

Which is understandable since he was a former kicker.

Take that to Joe Buck who is only able to give witty comments about fine dining and window dressing.

I'm completely biased when it comes to Summerall. When I hear his voice, it reminds me if my childhood. Can't get enough of the guy.

I hated when Madden would replay things back and forth and back and forth and then use his telestrator pen to circle shit that wasn't there or circle 15 things that ended up just confusing everyone, Madden included.

Whatever, Madden was greatness. Madden + Summerall? Best team of all time IMO.
 
I loved Madden, don't get me wrong. I just hated his drawing all over the screen and the back and forth with the replays. go/stop/go/stop/backup/go/stop/backup/go
