I really think he might be fine. I don't think we have the personnel to go too far anyway. It's not like Ben Johnson would be the difference in getting this team to a Super Bowl... we just don't have that kind of roster.

I like the picks for his coaches. But BS is calling plays. And that's what will really make or break him. I still don't trust him calling plays but we will see. Maybe with the OC he picked there will be a boost to what he calls and how he calls the offense.

This is how I feel. I think overall the staff is probably a downgrade from McCarthy particularly at the top, but it's not a disaster and could be passable but the roster is the big issue. It's fixable but they won't do what it takes.

I don't care if we're thin at DT, he's too much money for what we are getting (unless we are suddenly playing the Giants for 17 games).

Let's see Osa dominate vs the best teams. Where was he vs winning teams? That should be the measure of strength, not the f'ing Giants

Signing Osa for big money would be like signing Rico to his next deal based on his stretch of 3-4 good games midseason.

He had 2.5 of his 4.5 sacks and 10 of his 23 QB hits against playoff teams over 9 games, so roughly equal production against playoff vs. non-playoff teams. He also had 3 QB hits against the Bengals who had one of the better offenses in the league.

I realize that you probably don't like him because he isn't 320 but he had more QB hits than any interior DL in the league except for Leonard Williams and Zach Allen. He had the same amount of sacks and more QB hits than Jalen Carter.

He's worth extending.

I get why people "say this" but I disagree with the money argument. If we were using the 20 mil savings to sign someone better, I'd agree. But what we do is save the 20 mil and do nothing to get better. So why do we bitch and moan about the cost of guys? Do you really believe the BS Jerry spins about the cap?

He's worth extending but I'm not convinced he's worth extending at $20 million. I think he's a good player but for that kind of money I'd want a consistently dominating player and I don't think he's that.

Yea I think 20 is a bit too much but 16-18 is warranted.

20 might be ok on a longer deal but if it's just 4 years it should be somewhere around 16-18.

So what would he be worth extending at in your opinion? For a normal team I'd agree with your perspective. But it's hard for me to try to save money when I know that money won't be passed on to add talent. They will just claim it was eaten up by Parsons, Tyler Smith, Dak, Lamb or someone else.

And getting a sweet fifth round comp pick a year from now doesn't make it feel too much better.

Leadership and situational football is not captured by the stats you mention-- production on 3rd down, sacks that end drives, and production in key moments.

And most importantly his run defense is worse than average. Why are we paying 100 million to a DT whose run grade is so poor?

He did force a fumble this year and has 2 total in his four year career, and while that's good it's not dominant. He's never made a pro bowl.

And while I don't care that he's not 320 (that's 1 tech territory), if he was at least 290 he might have a chance at stopping the run. Instead he's average.

100 million? Hard pass.

We pay that much, we lose (or rather, we continue to lose).

You need your big money players leading the way, and while it's great he (hopefully) has Micah Parsons on his left, I just don't see him that way.

Give me the compensatory pick.

I'd be OK with 12-14 per year and voidable years

If we were a normal team I'd look at the free agent list and see what options are out there at DT. Compare prices and styles and possibly argue for signing a different guy and drafting DT. Instead my option is going into the draft with nobodies and Mazi or resign Osa. That's an impossible way to build a roster. You basically have to resign guys like Osa if you're not going to do anything in free agency.
