McCarthy Gone - Now the search is on - Schottenheimer Hired

Could just be that they can't do anything with Moore until the Eagles season is done.
 
I'm by no means advocating hiring Schottenheimer, but has anybody on here ever heard Schotty talk about football? Or even talk for that matter? I haven't.

Nobody on here knows if he'd ever be a good head coach or not. If he can command a room? Lead a team? At the end of the day just because nobody else has been interested in him to be a head coach does not mean he cant be a good head coach. Most head coach hires don't succeed. Just because he has been a mid offensive coordinator doesn't mean he'd be unsuccessful as a head coach. Two different things.

Are there dozens of better candidates? Sure, ha. But you all talking in absolutes that he wouldn't succeed really don't know for sure other than any coach hired by the Dallas Cowboys is behind the 8 ball because of the owners/front office.

Oh, Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless say so? Just based on that I say let's hire him. I'm kidding, but if he is hired I'm not leaving the Cowboys as a fan. Save the drama.

I've listened to a few of his PC's and he's seemingly a solid speaker/communicator and I could see him having a decent hold of a locker room.

That's not the problem exactly, it's the demented process the team employs and the very obvious fact that they seek out HC's who are desperate enough to acquiesce to the stupid way the organization is run.

Sure and I've said before judging a head coaching decision on a guys "Resume" can be deceiving. Some of the best coordinators make terrible head coaches. The jobs are just very different. And none of us actually get to know these guys. The only resume as fans that we can truly judge are of guys once they become head coach.

But what I can say is that BS resume sucks. He is not someone I even want as a coordinator. And if the plan is for him to call plays on offense I think we have plenty of evidence to say that is a terrible idea. He has the respect of a lot of players on the team from what I have heard so presumably he is a good leader. But they could just like him for other reasons. Like he is a likable fun guy who shows up at your kids baptism or some shit.

In the end, I have zero faith in this organizations ability to find a coach that no one else wants and have found a gem in the rough. So no I'm not going to be optimistic about it. I'm going to prepare myself instead for the Campo like years ahead while we wait for his contract to expire

Now Pete Carroll, I have issues with. But he has a strong resume of success. So yes, I'd feel better about him. A lot better. And in an ideal world we would go find the next Sean Payton, McVay or whoever. But that's not BS.

Trying to understand this organization and the way they do things is beyond me. I could come up with multiple reasons they may do that. But none of that means there is any truth to it. So ultimately I'll just say I don't really know their motives behind any of it.

I really just hope that they don't go with BS.
And recognize that none of the assistants on teams in the playoffs will be hired until after their seasons are done.

I will say if they hire BS, I'm not sure I will give much of a shit about this team next season. There would be zero reason for any hope or excitement. I'll still watch and enjoy the draft because those players will long outlive BS's head coaching career. But games next year? I'll probably find other stuff to do.

And it's even more puzzling coming from Ware because he went to Denver, saw how a real organization does things, and won a SB.

So many players have left Dallas and made statements about how much different the culture and environment is with their new team, and yet Ware, a guy who played with Peyton Manning and won a SB, still doesn't get that what goes on in Dallas is completely ass backwards?

Yes, you can find his press conferences and radio interviews out there. If you're just going on that, he does come off pretty well. He "commands the room" and explains himself well. Has some energy to him where he's positive but not a pushover that I could see working as a HC -- that's probably why Dak and CeeDee and other players like him so much. Even the Fan hosts who were so down on him at first said fans who hate him but aren't really familiar with him will start to come around once they hear him speak a little bit.

Still not ideal, obviously. We know the Joneses are cheap asses now and their candidate pool sucks. But with good coordinators, I could see him being okay as a HC. I'm not as down on him as most. On the other hand, with spare-ass, scrap heap cast-offs as coordinators, this could be a disaster.
