Spillman agrees to deal with Cowboys
August, 31, 2014

By Tim MacMahon | ESPNDallas.com

IRVING, Texas -- Safety C.J. Spillman has agreed to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, a source said.

Spillman, 28, a special teams player who was credited with a career-high 25 tackles last season, was cut Saturday by the San Francisco 49ers. He played 59 games for the 49ers over the last four seasons after beginning his career with the San Diego Chargers, where he played for Cowboys special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia.

Spillman’s knowledge of the 49ers’ schemes could be useful to the Cowboys as they prepare for their season opener against San Francisco.

The Cowboys need to make a roster move to create a spot for Spillman. They'll need to do the same in regards to linebacker Korey Toomer, who has also agreed to a deal with Dallas.

I like this add...not bad.
Me too.

Scary thing is he couldn't cut it as a safety in San Fran, but is probably our second or third best now without playing a down.

We have all their secrets now.

We got Toomer too, so we can pick his brain for the Seahawks in a month.

Oh that tricky tricky Jerry.
Jerry- "What's the Seahawks secret?"
Toomer- " They only care about winning."

He is a guy I like too...even Crawford was not a bad pick up.

Dixon waived to make room.

Meanwhile Jeff Heath is STILL a Cowboy.

Wow.

I like the Spillman and Toomer pick ups, indifferent to Crawford and the OG from the Browns, I guess it's nice that Crawford has some size to him. But yea, I would've much preferred to cut that schlub Heath.

Heath and Hayden are the new versions of Lynn Scott and Corey Procter. ...guys who can't play but mysteriously never get replaced.

Reverse affirmative action.

Heath is at least a good ST'er, probably better than Dixon, but I never want to see him on the field on defense ever.

Wow.

I'm certainly not a Heath fan. But isn't he supposed to be pretty decent on ST? Maybe Dixon didn't fit there.

Hopefully Dixon to the PS...like him much better than Heath.

I get why we churn the roster...but wouldn't it have been easier to figure out you had SHIT at safety long before the season started?

Probably has as much to do with confidence as anything. If you just go by Dixon's style of play, there's no reason he can't be a good special teamer. But they know what they are getting from Heath and can count on it.

We were still hoping the unicorn would play then.

Yes. Unfortunately, we see season after season of Jerry figuring out at the last second that his roster sucks a donkey dong and those "offseason" moves aren't quite panning out.

As if no one else knew.
