Machota: Jerry Jones We have enough moving parts, no need to move La’el Collins to T

Aha. You guys are good candidates to read the Rays of Sunshine article. :art

I promise I'm not trying to be a smart ass. I know I've done the same thing 1,000,000 times out of frustration as a fan.

This won't go ever well buuuuuuut I'm gonna go ahead and says it. I probably have more real coaching experience than anyone on this board. You internet wizards are a complete joke to guys who have been in the actual trenches and have dedicated their lives to the game. I'm not talking about me because I don't hold myself in that high of a regard. Still, I feel like a have a decent grasp on how it works in the real world because I've actually seen some of it with my own eyes. I don't consider that I am 5% of what these NFL guys are. Yet, we here at the DCC have internet football wizard who are so amazing that we can diagnose positions, skills and consult on what needs to be done from our computers at our regular jobs (that we obviously volunteer at since we really are NFL coaches in disguise).

Is there any chance thay mayyyyyybe the Collins situation had been internally evaluated by professionals?

Lots of scouts have never coached football. It doesn't take coaching experience to see talent or ability. Besides if we just assume that the Cowboys coaches are smarter then us it really leaves nothing to talk about.

:lol

Look at Skid up there on his high horse with his self-appointed self-righteous crown on. So cute.

So let me get this straight. You've got the football positions all figured out after a preseason game and you don't consider that as being self-righteous? You've never been paid in a football position in your life. Don't have one clue about how it works in the real world yet I am the self-righteous one? I never for a second claimed that the coaches are idiots and that I've got all of this shat figured out. It is comical.

I know you are taking this personal because you really believe you know better. But dang brotha, step back for a second and evaluate the situation. Remove the emotion from the deal and realize what you are saying here. You are basically saying that you know more than people who have dedicated their lives to football professionally. You do know that is what you are doing, no?

Again, since you couldn't see past your righteous crown to read it the first time, I saw Weems play the other night and that's all I need to see to think that a guy that played T at a high level his entire college career would be better.

It's good to see that Skid has developed a faith in Garrett, though.

I'm going to start following people around and every time they give an opinion on a player I'm going to post "YOU THINK YOU ARE A FUCKING COACH OR SOMETHING? I'M A COACH! BOW TO ME!"

OK, that's fair enough. I get it. To get emotionally offended because someone questions your football expertise is taking it a little too far for an internet football expert, no? I think it is interesting to see. I love to talk about it but you start to see guys pride swell to the point that they really start believing their own stuff and you've got pure comedy.

The truth with a situation like Collins (don't know the actual details so this is just a way it could have potentially went down) is that the guys go through drills and positional evaluation. In that process it was most likely pretty clear that they saw something that pretty much excluded him from T temporarily or whatever. That's the part that we don't see. We here at the DCC automatically assume that Jerry messed it up and no real football is happening during the week.

Skid's right, how can we possibly question the choices of these football lifers.

Seems like what you're saying, then, is that there really is no need to discuss it.

Without discussions, an internet message board really has no purpose.

So I'm not sure why you're taking offense to someone taking a strong stance on an issue. It's leading to activity.

If you're going to be the guy that shuts down discussions with "I've done this and you have no right to question a professional coaches, grr!!!!", then shut this bitch down.

I think what Skid was saying is that you can substitute you judgement and opinions over the coaches but it doesn't mean you are right. Obviously differing opinions is what greased the wheels.

You might have missed the point there. The reason that I brought up my real world experience wasn't to say that I'm awesome. What I was saying is that I at least have that yet I don't consider myself anywhere in the same neighborhood as the real professionals.

I've been to coaching clinics all over the country, sat in on big brand programs, worked with 2 different Texas hall of fame coaches (one of which I am part of his staff now) and try to make a real effort to learn from these guys, yet I know they dwarf me in that regard. I'm not that awesome is what I'm saying.

Matter of fact, I watched Coach Honeycutt receive an award for 50 years of coaching last month. I am privileged to work with him now on the football field. I look up to the dude bigtime. With him he acknowledges that the guys in the NFL are so far and away ahead of him that he could never keep up with the knowledge and professionalism. In my mind that puts me pretty low on the spectrum. Not high as you suggested that I tried to make a case for.

Conversely, the internet gives everyone the same authority if you know what you are talking about or not. In the real world you can step back and sort of just laugh at the guys who really believe their own stuff.

I don't assume that my opinions are correct, but should that really stop me from giving that opinion on an internet message board?

Exactly.

That's not what I mean where you may get that. Actually, I think that this place has become pretty damn stale with a lack of varying opinions. I think introducing my opinion is good proof of that. Suggesting that popular opinions around here could be wrong is causing a stir. Hmmm maybe the pot needs stirred lest groupthink take over (too late).

Sure, but when someone posts an opinion that may not be popular, there will be discussion and debate about it. And, when someone disagrees with you, you can't just drop a "You think you know better than the coaches?" line and expect that to end the debate. People have opinions, and they express them on here because this is, well, a msg board.

That "coaches know best" line is very zonish, btw.

Your opinion was condescension by implying that we're not qualified to have an opinion on the matter because we haven't coached professional football, while you have coached 5-on-5 HS football and are much more aware of an NFL coaching staff's decision making.

If it's become stale, it's time to open the gates.

But if you have to flash coaching credentials before you can post an opinion there may be an issue.

I get what Skid is saying. The arguments on this board are fun, but sometimes people, myself included, can take themselves a little too seriously. That's kinda the point though, isn't it?

I agree that everyone shouting, "Jerry sucks!" gets old really quickly.

I get his point. I just think it's silly to insinuate that we shouldn't believe in our own opinions enough to debate them.
