Peyton was 30 and 39. Brees was 31. Eli was 31. Stafford was 34.

The point is age doesn't seem to be a particular detriment, and basically seems to be irrelevant.

It's not his age that's holding him back, it's his draft positioning. Excluding Brady (the ultimate outlier), the vast majority of SB winners were drafted in the first three rounds.

Why are you caught up in the cap numbers anyway? The cap is easily manipulated to get what you want. His salary is not holding them back.

I don't think that's an issue at all, it more speaks to how QBs are usually overdrafted and sometimes a guy falls through the cracks. Id say the same about Purdy.

Once someone is in the NFL, I don't really see what draft position has to do with it. The player is who the player is. Of course most QBs are going to come from the first round. It's the most heavily over drafted NFL position. And on top of that, QBs generally take time to develop. Teams spend the time, resources and patience on the top picks. If you're a sixth round QB the NFL team that drafted you isn't going to look at you the same way the team would if they took you sixth overall. IT's why first round QBs get chance, after chance, after chance. And day three QBs usually only get a chance because of injury. And if they fail then, they don't always get a second chance.
 
Again, excusing unicorn Brady, your best chances of landing a SB winning QB is to draft one in the first three rounds. Or hope that a Brad Johnson type can be carried by a dominant defense.

I mean guys like Dilfer and Hurts were kind of carried as well...

But again, their draft status sort of affords them that opportunity. If those guys were drafted in the sixth round, they would have never been starters.

Dilfer definitely, but Hurts would've been the MVP of two SBs had his defense made a stop. He has his shortcomings, but he's not a JAG like Dilfer.

I'm not a big Hurts guy. The way I see him is that he is an excellent runner with JAG throwing abilities who fell into the perfect situation. If you take him in the sixth round, I don't think you ever see him rise to that level. But it's one of those, you'll never know things.

Take Sam Darnold for example. He is on his fifth NFL team. After flopping with the Jets and the Panthers do you think he would have continued to get the opportunities he has if he wasn't a top draft pick?

The were too good to last 'til the 6th round, so it's a moot point. Romo was an UDFA who eventually got an opportunity, so yes, guys like him get a chance if they demonstrate ability.

Hell I'm still not sure Dak gets a chance if Kellen Moore doesn't break his ankle. Let that sink in. The Cowboys thought Dak was a similar talent as Showers. Yeah if you don't remember who Showers is there is a reason why.

Satan will not allow a QB of any age or draft position to win in Dallas.
