Machota - Cowboys position series: Will defensive line additions lead to more sacks?

Cowboysrock55 said:
Carp says "No. The DL is more talented this year, nothing for me to wait and see about."

LT Responds "Not debating whether they are more talented. I am wondering if everyone is going to get on the field enough to help."

Carp says "Who besides Hardy is scheduled to miss time?"

LT Responds "McClain."

Do you see how this discussion was addressing the defensive line? All of the above quotes are copied and pasted and you both were quoting each other's posts when you made those comments. That's why I'm not sure how you jumped to Rolando.

If you will go back to my first and each succeeding post I have made on this thread, you will see I was addressing the entire defense.

In a thread titled "Cowboys position series: Will defensive line additions lead to more sacks?"

Keep up old man. You're all over the place.

Boys, boys....

Can't we all just get along? :lol

No I was just genuinely confused since your post was in direct response to Carp talking about the D-line being more talented. You disagreed with that by naming the two suspensions. It really didn't make much sense.

So lets get down to brass tacks. We can all agree that the defensive line is way more talented this year? Correct?

Yes it is but that isn't my concerns. One concern with the DL is whether Hardy will actually be available and then there are other concerns about the defense as a whole. Namely, aside from McClain.s suspension, will he flake out? Then will Gregory be able to make the transition with his weight and will Lee hold up physically, etc. The overall improvement of the defense has some questions to be answered including the DL.

On paper it looks like Dallas has upgraded the DL player personnel. I wouldn't say "way more" but on paper, it is improved.

Lee didn't play at all last year so if he plays a snap for us this year that's an improvement as far as I'm concerned. Gregory's weight is such a non issue, I don't even know why people bring it up. No one was concerned that he didn't weight enough in college because he doesn't play like it. The guy will add weight naturally, but no aspect of his game shows that weight is an issue.

There is zero question to me about the overall talent of the D-line improving. That's clear as day. As far as the overall talent of the defense I'm not sure how you can really think we got worse there. Unless you really thought highly of Bruce Carter and Durant who each played part of last season. We are basically the same at safety. We are better at corner. We are better across the D-line. If Sean Lee stays healthy we are way better at LBer, but even if he isn't I'd saw we are at least a push. No question the defense should be better.

Especially since everyone on here talks about pass rush making a defense. Well we did a shit ton to improve our pass rush.

2015 is set up for Romo to prove he's worthy of being an NFL MVP. NFL players don't respect Romo given DeMarco Murray's 4th best player in the league ranking. That as much as anything says who they feel was responsible for Dallas' success.

I disagree with that, but do agree Dallas running backs have dropped to below-average. The offense is thus completely on Romo's shoulders with an unbelievable offensive line, future Hall of Famers in Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, and an ever-improving Terrance Williams.

The defense come October will have added Greg Hardy, Sean Lee, and Byron Jones for a major boost in talent at each level not even counting Demarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory.

If Dallas can manage to head into the bye week 3-2 vs the Giants, Eagles, Falcons, Saints, and Pats, they will have a major leg up for the playoffs (Eagles being a key game).

I could also see a 2-3 start with a shaky defense and lack of an offensive identity out of the gate with the press raining down on Romo, Garrett, and the Jones family while heaping praise on Demarco Murray and Chip Kelley.

But in the end it comes down to Garrett's commitment to a 50-50-ish run-pass ratio giving Tony Romo the opportunity to execute. I have a feeling the defense will (finally) have his back.

As long as we stick with the run and make defenses respect our offensive balance I have faith that the OL will give us at least an above average running game, and that Romo will be able to make plays against defenses that are off balance.

We will still have a top 5 rushing offense. We may just not have a top 5 RB.

Without a premiere runner this requires at least two healthy backs or a running QB. Dallas is really lame here, though.

Anyways, it doesn't matter really at all so long as we stay committed to a 50-50 ish run pass ratio.

I love the confidence, unfounded as it may be.

Sure it is founded. We had the second best running game in the NFL last year. I'd say my prediction has far more of a basis then the theory that we will abandon the run next season.

Your theory is predicated on the OL. Some think it takes both RB and OL to make a complete unit. Dallas will not begin the season with the same combo.

If I didn't think the RB mattered I'd say we will have the best running game next year. Afterall we have the best offensive line in football. So fifth best rushing attack is my way of adjusting for that. Unless of course you don't think the Oline is important.

It's important. I think it takes both and as I said earlier the team isn't starting with the same combo. Randle will probably be okay for a starter but I have reservations about the rest. I don't think Randal can carry a very large load however.

How do you spell Randle's name different in the same post? #ipadexcuse
