Letterman retiring...

Don't know about Colbert.

Is he going to be in character like on Comedy Central?

Don't know if he can pull that off on CBS.

And if he isn't in character, who knows what kind of host he'll make.
I don't think he'll be the right wing nut he is on Comedy Central. But I've seen him do other things not in character and he's always entertaining.

Colbert is supposedly not going to do the show "in character".

Jon Stewart's production company owns the character. I am sure Viacom wouldn't be too happy if they licensed it to a competitor

I kind of like this hire, but part of me was hoping Conan would move there. I am curious to see how he is with celebs and whatnot doing interviews for real.

As an aside...I like Fallon, but it is really just a chance for him to do skits more than do a talk show.

I thought Conan was given a 5 year contract with TBS. I don't know what his ratings are, but I doubt they'd let him out of it.

Get off me...I don't know TV contract details!

Considering he is a bit liberal in "real life" and a "conservative" in character, this should be interesting.

No doubt. It will be fun to watch. I'm guessing that it will take some time to transition and figure out what he's really going to do long term. If he even sticks.

Colbert will be great. I've seen him do non-character interviews... There is a good one with DeGrasse Tyson on YouTube, tho it's about an hour long if memory serves. He's still a funny guy out of character, but it was a legit interview.

If Fallon can do it, so can Colbert.
