LBGT bulies and Schools

I'd say teachers being pegged as folk who constantly beat kids over the head with their views on morality is very misinformed.

I don't think I have been known for that. You and I aren't discussing a fact. We are discussing philosophical differences. You believe in more of a socialist society where wages are predetermined by difficulty of the job and how much you feel like someone "deserves" to earn. I believe in democracy and private business where pay is based on a free market economy and supply and demand. I believe the highest paid positions should be those that are most difficult to fill.

To be clear, I'm saying morality, political viewpoints, cultural positions, etc.

I think more teachers do it than not, in my experience.

I love how Smitty is coming out all anti-government and anti-state when the government is run by lawyers for lawyers. Law in America has degenerated to such a Kafka-esque nightmare of regulation that it would take an army of lawyers to know and comply with the law, all because a bunch of lawyers like Smitty (only relevant, rather than scraping the bottom of the barrel) wrote the legal code to be complex.

At least teachers don't intentionally confuse students and rewrite the curriculum just so the state will have to hire more teachers.

I love how you're quick to generalize against cops but then get up on the cross for teachers as if they are any less worthy of being generalized against than policemen.

I completely agree with you. I don't see how this is a knock against me.

My profession is filled with scumbags. I generally try to steer clear of it all and stick to bankruptcy, something specifically mentioned as a legitimate function of the federal government by the US Constitution.

I beg to differ. Teachers go to bat to protect their jobs via unions all the time. And they definitely feed children lies.

Lobbying via unions isn't the same as writing the laws to just give yourself a job. Regardless, I don't live in a union state. Texas teachers don't have the right to bargain collectively.

I will agree with you that you and I are arguing philosophy. I do believe they deserve what they are paid because of what they go through. Plus, the amount of time it takes them to prepare. Plus, the fact that a lot of their school supplies they have to buy themselves. Plus, the amount of work it take to get their classrooms ready when they are "off".

As was stated earlier, that is done both ways. Not just on the left.

FWIW, average teacher salaries in PA are almost universally over 55k a year and in most of the metropolitan areas more than 60k.

Which, when you figure that they work 3/4ths of the year, is the equivalent of about 80k a year.

Even if they can't find another job that pays them as highly as their teacher salaries during the time they are off (~snicker~), a job at $10 an hour for 3 months could add probably somewhere in the 5k-7k range.

So teachers on average in PA can make 65k, 67k. That's fine for teaching addition and subtraction to 2nd graders.
