Jets Give Darrelle Revis permission to visit Bucs

Yeah, cause if they don't trade for a DB they are going to have to draft one.

It's in the rules.
It's common knowledge to people who pay attention to the Bucs that they are taking a DB early and with their recent resources already committed to young DL and OL, CB is the obvious choice at 13.

But, not the only choice. Nor their only need.

6 years - 96 million.

Good lawd.

They could easily take Austin or Patterson. They are far from set at WR.

Besides I don't think Rhodes is the BPA there.

So wait, they just gave him $96M coming off a knee surgery and he still plas to hold out next year?

What an asshole.

edit: nevermin, I misread. 1bigfan is the asshole.

With this deal, Darrelle Revis matches Mario Williams' $16M APY to become NFL's highest paid defensive player. ...

... Also, Revis is now the NFL's 7th highest paid player, and 3rd-highest paid non-QB, behind only Calvin ($16.2M) and Fitzgerald ($16.14M)

Oh, hell no, we can't be havin' that. Dez, how'd ya like to rework your deal, son?

But Schefter says NONE of the 96 mil is guaranteed? Why would you sign that contract?

I'm sure the Bucs wanted it because of the knee injury he just had, but it is really unusual for sure.

Jets get two picks for Revis

Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2013, 5:10 PM EDT

It became clear two weeks ago that, if/when (when) the Jets trade cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Buccaneers, the Jets will receive Tampa Bay’s first-round pick in the 2013 draft.

The only question was what else the Jets would get.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, it’s not a whole lot.

Per Schefter, the Jets will receive a fourth-round pick in 2014 (which some would regard as the equivalent of a fifth-round pick in 2013). The fourth-round pick in 2014 can become a third-rounder, based on certain conditions.

The package is less than the first-rounder, seventh-rounder, and 2014 third-rounder the Vikings finagled for receiver Percy Harvin. As previously explained, however, the Vikings could have used the franchise tag for two years on Harvin, controlling his rights for a total of three. Revis, per the terms of his contract, would have been free and clear after 2013.

The trade happened because the Jets had no interest in seeing Revis join a team like the Patriots or the Giants in 2014, and likewise no interest in paying Revis now, or ever. Tampa’s low-risk, $16 million per year, year-to-year deal presumably could have been offered by the Jets, if the Jets had wanted to invest that kind of money.

They didn’t, the Bucs did, and now the Jets have the 13th pick in the draft, seven years after they acquired Revis with pick 14.

Jets most likely will get a third-round pick in 2014 for Revis

At a time when plenty of Jets fans are feeling gloomy about the trade that sent cornerback Darrelle Revis to Tampa, there’s a tiny silver lining in the dark cloud over Gotham.

Per a source with knowledge of the trade terms, the fourth-round pick that the Bucs owe the Jets in 2014 upgrades to a third-round pick based only on the player’s presence on the Tampa Bay offseason roster in 2014.

We don’t know the precise date on which the pick enhances, but it falls at some point between the start of the 2014 waiver period and the 2014 draft.

As a practical matter, the specific date doesn’t matter. It’s highly unlikely that the Buccaneers will cut Revis after one year, especially since his $13 million base salary for 2014 doesn’t vest until the first week of the 2014 regular season.

So, barring a highly unlikely development, the Jets will get a first-round pick in 2013 and a third-round pick in 2014 for Revis.

So they essentially have up the same amount as we did to get Mo-Zone.

Thats a win for the Bucs.

Hopefully they take Mingo at 9 then trade down with a team like the 49ers or Falcons who will probably be after DE's, DT's, WR's and such.

If the Jets have two firsts now you'd think one of them might be spent on a guy like Barkley or Geno Smith if he falls.

It does seem weird, but it is refreshing for a player to bet on himself like that.

Ricky Williams disagrees with you.

Remember the rookie contract that Master P negotiated for him?

You'd have to be a complete dope to not get as much guaranteed as possible.

Complete rebuild for the Jets. Ryan's a dead man walking this year. He's a quality defensive coach and will probably get another head gig somewhere, but he lost this job because he stuck by Sanchez foe too long. His staff never got Sanchez to improve and Ryan takes some blame for that. Just a rotten situation. They need to clear house from Ryan down to the water boys.
