Hill: Why not Johnny Manziel to the Cowboys?

I think the Romo injury demise might be getting a bit overblown. He's had some back trouble and it's concerning, but not a death sentence. Especially when the last one, as I believe LT pointed out, was removal of a cyst, not structural damage.

I think Romo can remain an effective QB in this league for a number of years to come. The bigger issue is that his cap hit is going to be $27 million next year. If Romo isn't a Cowboy in the next year or two, I think it will be for cap reasons, not because he's physically unable to perform at a competent level anymore.

In hindsight, if Romo wanted to remain a career Cowboy, I think signing that mega-extension was the worst thing he could have done.

Of course, if he just wanted to rake in a huge signing bonus, mission accomplished.

Personally, part of me hopes we cut him and he goes to some place like San Francisco and wins a ring to stick it to Jerry's incompetent team building.

I'd agree it shouldn't of been that big of a deal if we are being told the truth about it just being a cyst. It just sure seemed like it affected Romo quite abit for it just being that.

I gave up wishing for personal success of any player a long time ago. Take Ware for example. I don't want him to win a ring in Denver. Mainly because he was here for the fail too. Same goes for Romo. As bad as Jones' team building is, these guys aren't innocent victims. They've all played their own parts in it.

The first surgery was the cyst surgery and the second was to relieve the pressure on the (sciatic) nerve caused by a herniated disc. This is the information I have on it. The second one was kept under wraps more so than the first. I have had the second surgery and it is a matter of relieving the pressure by implanting a device in the lumbar region of the spine or repairing the disc.. Mine was completely successful and I have every confidence Romo' s was as well based on his actions after rehab.

A successful surgery is one thing, one that can hold up to the stress of an nfl season is something else.
 
I'm sure his surgery is successful as well, slight difference in the activites LT and Romo participate in.

A disc can become herniated from myriads of things from light activity to lifting weights. Any player in the NFL can develop a herniated disc. The fact that you have had one repaired doesn't make you any higher risk than someone who has never had one. As long as your mobility isn't limited there's no problem. Romo would just as likely get injured in the legs as he would from another disc problem. Injury is an inherent part of football but Romo will enter the season with the same mobility and run the risk of injury just like the rest of the players in the league.
 
In my experience...once a person hurts their back it puts a strain on other parts of the body. A family member had something similar done at 31, not 34, and it wore them down in the day to day. Now Romo is an athlete and might just be fine, but I tire of being told there is nothing to see here...move along.

The sarcasm of what you tire from is duly noted but the only point I am making is that Romo may be just fine and I don't see the point in getting in a panic until we know one way or another.

From the moment the Joneses who own the Cowboys started gushing about Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, we began to pay attention to the possibility that the Cowboys would be inclined to add the potential franchise quarterback a year after giving Tony Romo a franchise quarterback contract.

Ed Werder of ESPN fuels that notion, explaining on SportsCenter that, if Manziel falls to No. 16, the Cowboys could take him.

Let’s take a step farther. We think that, if Manziel slides past the Vikings at No. 8, the Cowboys could be inclined to trade up to get Manziel. In 20 of 25 drafts, Jerry Jones has made a move with a first-round pick. This year, moving up for Manziel could give the Cowboys the kind of offseason shakeup they surely covet.

Said Werder on the air, “Jerry Jones was raving about [Manziel] this weekend . . . in front of Romo.”

It would be a circus, a distraction, a potential mess to have Romo and Manziel on the roster. Cap considerations would make a trade of Romo difficult if not impossible this year. The cap hit would be stiff next year but not insurmountable, if the Cowboys were to move Manziel to the starting lineup and move Romo out of the building.

With an extended lull resulting from the league’s insistence on delaying the draft by two weeks, it’s fun to consider what may happen. It would be even more fun to cover the efforts of Romo and Manziel to coexist as the top two quarterbacks on the depth chart of America’s Team.

I think drafting him at 16 is not that realistic. If we trade down into the late 20s, pick up another third...I bet you he thinks a lot harder about it.

I would like to see a QB drafted as well. I can't buy into Manziel however.
