My guess is they felt confident they could score on 3rd down and wanted to run more time off the clock. Still dumb, though, given the TD puts them up by 10.

Just heard on the radio that the only fathomable reason for Eli to throw that ball out of the endzone and stopping the clock was because Eli has Romo in his money league.

Even if that's true, if they don't make it on 4th down the clock still stops. They had to keep the clock running, or score the TD.
