Anyone else surprised that the Patriots are letting McCourty test free agency? Funny thing is he was the one guy who was talking about how proud he would be to get franchised.

Bills acquire Matt Cassel in trade with Vikings

Buffalo needed to add a veteran quarterback this offseason, and now the Bills have their man: Matt Cassel.
The Bills and Vikings announced today that they have agreed to a trade that will send Cassel to Buffalo. Technically the trade can’t be completed until the league year starts on Tuesday, but both teams have agreed to it.
The Vikings will get draft pick compensation for Cassel. So far there’s no word on the nature of the picks being swapped in the deal, but they’re presumably late-round draft choices.
Cassel opened last season as the Vikings’ starter but suffered a season-ending injury in Week Three, and with the emergence of Teddy Bridgewater last year, there was little reason for the Vikings to bring Cassel back.
In Buffalo, Cassel will compete with EJ Manuel to be the starter. The winner of that competition will hand off to LeSean McCoy, whom the Bills traded for on Tuesday. The Bills are off to an active start this offseason, even before the opening of free agency.

Yeah, this is a serious head-scratcher. Although, Schefter is now reporting that Cassel comes with a pick as well.

Not sure why anyone would want Cassel. It's like NFL coaches are so afraid of the unknown that they'd rather take on a player they know sucks then to take on a player that could go either way.

The Saints are in deep deep shit. As much as we have bitched about our "cap hell", they are literally in it. They are cutting guys left and right. Jahri Evans might be next, maybe even Colston too if he doesn't retire or something. They are even trying to trade players with horrible contracts like Curtis Lofton and Junior Gallette. Good luck with that.

Vince Wilfork tweets Patriots will not pick up option

The Patriots will not be picking up Vince Wilfork's option for 2015.
That's the word from the big man himself, who posted a lengthy thank you to the fans, coaches and fellow teammates on Twitter Thursday morning.
Wilfork was confident in his ability to continue playing, and noted that he has plenty of gas left in the tank.
"I will take my time, think things through, take into consideration many things, but mainly family and see where life goes from there," he said toward the end of a lengthy post.
Wilfork, 33, was owed a $4 million roster bonus in five days, which could have been the reasoning for Bill Belichick's timing.
His three-year, $22.5 million contract which he signed last year was always looked at as one on the pricey side for a player in his early thirties despite the fact that, over 766 snaps this season, he was still one of the best at his position.
In the note, Wilfork mentions how he will alwas be a fixture in New England and how he'll always call the area his home. Now, we'll see if his thought process leads him to retire on a high note, or end his career in another jersey.
