I doubt that Zimmerman would have pleaded to anything that had jail time measured in years.
 
I think the prosecution also just kind of thought the guilty verdict was a given coming in. They certainly seemed unprepared and did a terrible job of calling witnesses.
 
I would kind of guess the opposite. They may have realized they had a poor case and only went forward because of public/media pressure.

If they were doing it to appease the public they would have gone for an easier charge to convict. It seems like they just thought they had it in the bag.

My sense is that the initial investigation and Prosecutor didn't bring any charges because it was their position that under the law there was not a valid case. Only after a media and public outcry did the current team begin to try to build a set of charges. It also helped to fuel the fire when the President fanned the flames with his statement. IMO the prosecutors felt pressured to go for a murder charge even though the process was earlier discarded.

It's was media and then the Governors pressure to mount a case. The fact that he wasnt arrested for a few days shows how little of a case the police had of him yet the state pursued it anyhow.

The chief of police didn't want to press charges due to him knowing that it was self defense from the beginning. Definitely charges were brought due to pressure.
 
Normally, I'm all in for a good Schmitty roast. But I agree with him here. I didn't think he was being his normal douchey self when he explained the manslaughter stuff. The question was raised on what Zimmerman could/should have been charged with, and that's when he gave the explanation. And I think his being a lawyer/studying law does give him an in on discussions like this, at least when it comes to discussing the letter of the law, opinion aside.

But, I digress. F you, Schmitty. Damn you to hell for this.

Well, I didn't mention you as raising the question, but the flow of the conversation did. And it's reasonable to think that, especially since the jury was instructed last minute that they could consider that charge against him.

I can see that, go for the big shock and awe charges. However I think when they put that girl who was on the phone with Martin and Zimmermans best friend on the stand that they expected different results. Those two were terrible for the prosecution.
 
I wonder if Zimmerman's defense attorneys told him to get fat so he looked like a harmless schlub in the courtroom.

I just assumed he was in hiding in Mississippi. You have to be overweight to blend in down there.
