Defensive Coordinator Candidates

I get that, but some of these names, why even talk to them? I mean, Chuck Pagano?

Senior consultant type shit or whatever booze said, similar to what Frazier is in Seattle.

He also has a DB background so I think they're really looking at layering multiple guys with that background onto the staff like they did with the OL last year.

I think he also had some overlap with Leonhard.

Not sure about any significant overlap. I think only a year when Leonhard was a player.

I think he could just help as a consultant for the search for defensive coordinator and assistants. Just because we have an interview with the guy doesn't mean we want him as defensive coordinator. We just may be consulting with him. But hell what do I know, he might be named DC tomorrow. But I think that would be absurd given his age and battle with cancer. I don't think that man has aspirations to be a defensive coordinator still but I could be wrong.

I prefer someone up and coming, maybe even out of the college ranks. This team desperately needs another voice in the room when it comes to the draft. There’s no doubt those early defenses Jimmy built were helped by the fact he knew those players way better than those scouts ever could.
PT and Rosie tend to lock in on inferior “Colgate State” type players to round out the roster who excel physically but can’t translate that to the
field. Even worse, it’s players coming off injuries when there are normally much better players on the board.
Outside of the fact their eye for real talent sucks, it’s just not been a proven recipe for a SB type defense.

Would be nice to get away from that mentality.

Someone find out if Gunther Cunningham, Wade Phillips or Bill Cowher have a son who coaches defense at any level.

We’re obviously into hiring the loinfruit of moderately successful coaches.

That was Cowlishaw-ish.

I do not see how getting a college DC makes a ton of sense.

I will smash your shitty little birdhouse next time I see you in Aynor.

I mean Miami's defense looks awesome for example. But how much of that is just the awesome talent they have? I don't think Miami schematically is doing anything overly impressive. But they don't have to.

So would he be a good choice? I have no idea but I'm uncomfortable with it for example. But sure, he would know some of the elite college talent well. Hell a number of those guys play for him.

Given that there are no reported interviews for Leonhard except ours I'm guessing he's either going to replace Joseph in Denver or come here as DC.

The carousel is spinning out of control but I'm pretty sure decisions will start being made this weekend and into next week, and it would seem late in the game for him to just jump somewhere random, especially if Denver wins Saturday.

Yeah I just don't think he will announce until the Broncos are out of the playoffs and he may want to see what his DC does.

One of the more disappointing things about Eberflus’ shit year was how the linebacking unit was so poor, despite it being his specialty.

I hope we take that hire seriously. You can have the best line around, but if the LBers cannot diagnose, you are kind of wasting your time. Look at what has been our lineage coaching the position. It won’t make you proud. Ben Bloom, Fat Mike’s buddy McCurley and Dave Borganzi is a shitty group.

Yeah that was the one thing I really thought would make a leap forward because of Eberflus and his history with the position. The fact that it ended up looking like the biggest dumpster fire on defense tells me that Eberflus is probably just toast as a coach.
