Small safety from Wisconsin if I remember correctly. I don't like Wisconsin in any form but this guy has my full support. I actually think he is a great up and coming choice from an elite defensive system.

Exactly … the only names in the starting rotation that jump out at me are Patrick Surtain ll and Dre Greenlaw … he’s done a great job making a strong defense with a lot of mid to lower round talent .. that speaks volume .

Allen was a FA signing and already established player, he took a jump in Denver but I think that was more career progression than amazing scheme/coaching.

They also signed a bunch of other vets like Hufanga, John Franklin Myers, Singleton and DJ Jones because they have a QB on a rookie deal.

Those are advantages we won't have, and Leonhard arguably doesn't have much, if anything to do with their front 7, most of his focus has been on the secondary and "passing game".

Would you take Osa, Clark and Williams

or

Allen, Jones and Franklin Meyers.

Because that's an easy one for me. I think we would have a more talented front 3 in that defensive system. What you say about Leonard not having much, if anything to do with their front 7 means very little to me. Your defensive coordinator isn't going to coach the front 7. You've got a D-line coach and a LBers coach to do that. What you need is a guy that knows what the entire defense is doing. And from everything I understand Leonard is basically the understudy right below Vance Joseph. And I've also heard about how extremely bright Leonard is.

Basically I don't need a defensive coordinator who is going to be a killer D-line coach. I need a defensive coordinator who can run a stellar scheme.
 
I'd take our group but I'd take what Denver has at every other position across the entire defense.

I'd be fine with Leonhard, just not my top choice necessarily, especially if Bowles is on the market.

They have a white corner... And as an Iowa fan, he wasn't even a good white corner. Don't tell me Riley Moss can start at corner for them and be fine unless its just a badass scheme.

I will say the drawback to Leonard is if he is successful as a defensive coordinator it will be short lived. That's a young guy with hype, he will jump to the front of the line for a head coaching job in fairly short order. The advantage to these retread elite defensive coordinators who have been head coaches and failed is that they likely won't be making that jump again any time soon. It's why I wanted a guy like Robert Saleh last offseason. That dude is a great defensive coordinator. He sucked as a head coach. And now he will make a career of being a great defensive coordinator for awhile.

Yeah they were talking about this on the radio. Almost all of our blitzes came in like the first two defensive drives. And then the rest of the game it was rush 4 or 3. His QB rating against our blitz sucked but against everything else was like 120+.

Why the fuck does Eberflus do that? Starts with some cool stuff for a drive or two. Then totally reverts to the old shit. Hell he even seemed to go back to Murray more as the game went on despite Wilson starting.

Hasn't our play action passes fell off a cliff as well despite having a good RB and Dak being among the best at it?

Tough to figure out how these faggots just always get away from what works.

To be fair I think Saleh is going to get a HC job either this year or next, assuming SF's defense is good again next year.

A guy like Bowles or Schwartz wouldn't be going anywhere though.

Could be, my point is just that NFL teams are always wanting to make the hot young coordinator a head coach. So if a guy like Leonard is great you may only get 2 years of coordinating. But right now, that's a minor concern. I just want someone who can coach and call plays.

Did you not appreciate the creativity of that 4th and 3 play where we dropped the DE and only rushed 3 guys? All rushing to one side even. So brilliant, allowing the QB to roll out to his right with 0 risk of pressure. Really got McCarthy good on that one.

Hell, Flores, probably Bowles too.

That's a good point, but even still, I'd rather just take the best guy I can find and worry about the future when it comes.

I don't regret them having Norv or Wannstedt for example, even though both were snatched up fairly quickly.
 
Don't know if this bit of info is buried in another thread but I was reading an article in yesterday's DMN and there was a quote from Jerry in there where he essentially said it hasn't gone unnoticed that QBs who have been struggling versus most everyone else are playing their best football against the Cowboys defense.

Sounds to me like barring a miraculous turnaround, Eberflus is out of here.
