DCC Appreciation Thread...

I,m sorry but these last two groups are pretty much pusses. They really need some history lessons. We took all the suicide playground rides so they might survive. Stop being friends ,be parents.

We simply had parents that understood life comes with hard knocks. I feel safe that once the 1990s hit, things got softer until they became the full on shut ins during the 2010s. I had to nag my son to get off his ass and go out. My daughter hit her formative years right around COVID and fucked all that up.

COVID made it all so much worse. Amplified the shut-in factor and gave parents more time to coddle their children.

Kids need a degree of freedom from their parents to explore the world and their own limits.

Growing up, the whole neighborhood, adjacent places, forts constructed of random wood, drainage systems, abandoned haunted houses, random woods, etc. were where I roamed and biked all day. I knew to be within shouting distance of my house at a certain time.

My girls had play dates and biked strictly within the neighborhood or attended organized events. We had the numbers of parents whose houses they'd visit.

They got cellphones and computers at an early enough age, I definitely believed in that because I trusted them not to go fuck overboard with them and they didn't. And it made it so easy to track them. :)

It always sounded like you were getting your money back when you hung up. Nah, the phone was just holding that quarter as a deposit. It just waited to swallow it until you hung up.
