DC Matt Eberflus Fired

Definitely intrigued by Leonhard. His defenses at Wisconsin were really, really good. And now he has that NFL coaching experience.

I have seen several people mention keeping Whitecotton, why? Seriously, not trying to be an ass here, I didn't think any defensive group performed very well and I don't see a reason to keep any of the assistants. How does Whitecotton separate himself from that group?

Quinnen Williams likes him. That's about it.

I'm guessing mostly because he seemed likable on a DC.com video posted during OTAs.

Like Tony D just said, almost timestamping me, some might be that Quinnen coached him at the Jets and likes him.

My biggest request is an aggressive defensive play caller. I don't want to sit back and play zone coverages all day. I don't mind zone, but make the QB get the ball out quickly, don't play 10 yards off the receivers, attack the ball carrier. Yeah, you're gonna give up a big play every once in while, but at least beat up the oppenent during the process.

He is a familiar. He could hang on if they say went towards Ulbrich.

I mean if the guy learned how to coach defense from Saleh or McDermott he might be okay. I have no clue about the guys intelligence. But I'd rather Leonard if we are going assistant route. Whitecotton has never coached a defense to my knowledge and I just don't know that he is a creative bright mind. He might be but that's the point of interviews. Most Dline coaches are pretty specialized in my opinion.

It was obvious as day that the players were both confused/lacking in confidence in the scheme, and also demoralized and lacking motivation because Eberflus is such a chud.

Our defensive talent isn't that bad, with Williams and Overshown it's plenty good enough to be an average defense.

Yep, basically everyone under performed across the board except maybe Clowney. To me that's a sign of serious problems with the defensive coordinator. Every single defensive player can't possibly have gotten worse in one season. It's why I'm glad Eberflus is gone. Because it would have continued to get worse.

I wouldn't hire Eberflus to coach a 3A high school team.
