Dak Watch Thread...

It's interesting because either Dak is being completely greedy (if he's asking for 37-38+) or Stephen is being a complete moron (if he's unwilling to budge on 4 vs. 5 years, and presuming 4/140ish would get it done).

There's not a whole lot of middle ground.

there's no rush to get the deal done for jeri because the longer it languishes on the vine and draws out where people are reporting about it incessantly, the more their talking about him and his Cowboys which is obviously more important to him than winning anything

I said it months ago that it wouldn't surprise me if they had already agreed to a deal but jeri said to keep it quiet til the last second to max out the publicity

guess we'll find out mañana

At this point I'm about ready to say start fielding trade offers on Dak and the highest bidder gets the QB, roll with Dalton and sign Clowney. Offer Dalton a three year, sixty million dollar deal and build the best defense possible. Top three receivers, starting TE, both RBs and basically the whole OL are locked up for at least the next few years so even Dalton should have decent success with such a supporting cast.

Who is willing to throw down and trade for him right now?

Nobody.

Slater said that "they don't do 4 year extensions".

These guys are literal morons, basically every other high-profile QB and several other high-profile players at other positions are signing 4 year extensions, Chris Jones just signed one today with the Chiefs, McCaffrey just signed one with the Panthers a few months ago.

It's nearly standard operating procedure at this point, especially with QB's, and yet "they don't do 4 year extensions".

Bunch of fucking morons.

Well...might as well shut this thread down for a year then.

I've been pretty adamant that they should look hard at trading him if they can't get a deal done but given the extraordinary circumstances the country is in where there may be no college season I think if they want to trade him the strategic move might be to gamble and see what happens over the coming months.

If there is indeed no college season and Dak has a similar 2020 to 2019, very good statistically but still uneven against better teams and the overall team performance isn't where you want it, we might have tons of leverage going into the draft.

Without college football there will be exponentially more risk in drafting a QB in the top 10-15 and a team in the QB market like the Raiders, Lions, Panthers, Jaguars, Bears or even the Steelers or Jets might be willing to give up the farm for a 28-year old Dak coming off two straight seasons with 30+ TD's.

It's a risk one way or the other but I think it's probably the best move. First, we get to see what Dak can do over another 16 games, and second we may be positioning ourselves to have a huge amount of leverage as far as a possible trade.
