Cowboys Trade For George Pickens

I assume that this puts an end to the legitimacy of any "we only are interested in RKGs" nonsense.

I mean odds aren't that you will have 100% boy scouts. But what you want are enough of those guys to keep the others in line. Hopefully we have that now.

If we're gonna take that gamble, I'd only wanna do it with a WR or badass DLineman.

I'd be pretty shocked given that they have two passable vets and spent two picks on the position. Maybe they'd do a minor trade for a low-level guy to throw in the mix but I'd be shocked if it was something of a similar magnitude to the Pickens trade.

Look no further than last year at this time. There was wailing and gnashing of teeth because the team didn't do anything to try and improve. Now that they DO? More wailing and gnashing of teeth.

True talent wise, but the attitude makes this riskier and should make the price to acquire him less than this.

But at least we got a talented player who will help on the field quite a bit. That does provide some solace.
 


Hence the rental aspect.

I can see it now, we are giving these fans their “All In”.

It's going to be fascinating to see how the contract situation plays out next offseason, or potentially even during the season.

It's very hard for me to see them paying him ~25/year and I can't imagine them prioritizing him over someone like Bland, but I guess you never know if Pickens goes nuts and/or Bland kind of disappoints and Diggs/Revel play well.

Parsons is a thing unto himself, we know that deal will be done in the next 2 months or so.

Beyond that I don't really give a fuck about Ferguson or Williams, Aubrey is a kicker, so it's really going to come down to making decisions with regard to Pickens vs. Bland since they should be in a somewhat similar price range.

With Tyler Smith now eligible for an extension as well of course.

They are desperate and they put themselves into this situation. And they clearly aren’t ever willing to punt on a year to put themselves into a better future position. They’ve hitched themselves to Dak and can’t or won’t get out of that bad relationship.

This is, talent wise, probably the best they could have done all offseason. Certainly a better player than signing aging Cooper Kupp. This is a 24 year old who has put up a 1000 yard season and is probably a very good #2, though not as good as the Lamb-Amari Cooper pairing, but still pretty solid.

The question is if his head is on straight. The other question is, given that he’s almost certainly just a rental, is he able to fit in well enough during his one season here?

For a team that doesn't do anything of significance in FA, I would think they would value their picks a little more. We're not going to get a 3rd or a 4th compensatory pick for him when he leaves. He's probably going to have about 40 receptions for 500 yards. He'll leave and we'll get a 6th.

There is absolutely no chance he only puts up 40/500 barring significant injuries.

80/1200 is more likely than 40/500.
