Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

They were fine with White. They made 3 straight NFCC games and could easily have won in 81 against the 9ers.

White wasn't the issue, at least not in his prime.

The issue at QB was they had no plan of succession once White started breaking down.

I cannot endorse your White slander.
Dude, I watched every minute of it. I saw that robot play.

He was not the competitor the team needed, and took for granted that the team around him was great. That was a LOADED team. HOF RB, multiple great WRs, great TE, HOF DL, experienced, opportunistic secondary. Clutch kicker, legendary coach. Only fucking thing missing was the god damned QB.

He had something, I'll give that to you, he was not a bum. Danny could beat the shit out of the Falcons, or any team ending in "Bay". Hell he was an athlete who could also punt.

But he looked absolutely terrible against real playoff teams.

The 82 Strike also ruined him as a leader. He lost the locker room and lost his confidence, too.

That 82-83 championship game vs Washington broke him, physically and emotionally. We were clearly the better team, and we were giving up the game on special teams. White was fucking terrible, no awareness, no urgency, just a robotic approach. Dexter Manley crushed him on a sack and White never saw it and got his head smashed into the ground. Knocked him out of the game, he was on the sidelines openly crying-- before the game was even over.

Defense played its ass off to compensate, but Hogeboom's two TD comeback was not enough to overcome his late interceptions. That was White's last real shot with the team still in All-Timer mode.

At some point you have to just call it.

1) White was handed to keys to a Ferrari
2) Instead of winning even once, he smashed the car into a building or drove off a bridge three years in a row

This White pity-party has to fucking end

After '83, we we basically wasting our time with him. In his defense, Brandt's drafts were getting worse and worse, so I'm not putting all of it on his back. No one could fake a punt like him, though.

As late as 1985 they were 10-4 under White. He was still very good. He was just breaking down.

Even in 86 they were 4-2 under White on a team that was 3-7 without him.

Yeah, Landry should have been COY in 1985.

In 1986, we used a couple of new offensive superstar-caliber talents in Mike Sherrard and Herschel Walker to surprise the division early on.

But people caught onto how to contain Walker and White began to struggle to get Sherrard the ball on deep routes. When White went down in the second Giants game we had a very inconsistent backup in Pelluer. Walker and Sherrard gave us punchers chances to score, but we could not get consistent.

Hell, Pelluer couldn’t throw straight. I was at the second Washington game with him— HORRIBLE

Look at that perpetually smirking ginger bastard.

Thank God I'm not a Notre Dame fan.

If you want to live in a fantasy land where you try to prove a point by what color a gumball machine helmet is, carry on.

I used to wait until I got a Lions or Raiders helmet to apply the Cowboys stickers, then threw away the blue helmets.

It’s obvious what @bbgun does for a living. Not just making color decisions at a toy helmet company, refilling the gumball machines allowed nationwide access to kids talking to him.
