Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

I hated those versions of the blues.
I liked them more than the old "jinxed" unis. They altered them slightly mid-season, adding a blue line to the numbers so White could see the receivers better.

Poor Dutton didn't even get a name on the back of his.

Nice find. I really like our 1982-1994 versions with the added blue outline. Better than our current ones with the sleeve stars and white numbers.

The gray numbers on the navy blue jersey really nice combo. One of the few uniforms that had color numbers on color jersey.

Steve Walsh’s best game as a Cowboys QB probably.

@bbgun tell us about Steve Walsh. The drafting, the QB controversy, the trade. What if he stayed a Cowboy?

Cuz of Walsh, we lost the #1 overall pick in 1990, which could’ve been Junior Seau, Blair Thomas (then no Emmitt later on), Keith McCants or Cortez Kennedy

Probably would have taken the same trade the Falcons did...

the Atlanta Falcons (a 3-13 club in '89) traded the first overall pick and a fourth-round draft choice to the Indianapolis Colts for OT Chris Hinton, WR Andre Rison, and two draft picks (fifth round in 1990, first round in '91).

A little on the gangly side with Heinecke-like arm strength. Jimmy said he drafted him with the sole purpose of trading him sometime later, but that caused a rift with Troy. We were lucky to sucker the Saints in that deal a year later, but having the #1 pick in the '90 draft probably would've netted us more.

Walsh was a near disaster. Jimmy was very fortunate to get away with that and find a greater fool in the Saints.

Damn timestamps

Do you believe that? I don't. I think it was pretty clear at the time that Jimmy drafted Walsh because he didn't trust Troy, wondered about his "winning ability", if he was the guy to walk in the room and sink the 8 ball, etc. I'm 90% sure Jimmy just said that to make himself look better and to keep Troy from getting (as) mad at him.

He drafted Walsh a few months after drafting Aikman. Not sure Troy could've lost Jimmy's trust in that short timespan. He was also wowed by Troy's private workout before the draft. Jimmy was a Hurricane and so was Walsh. I'm sure that factored into it.

Wow, I'd forgotten it was that soon after Troy's draft. I was thinking it was the next year.

Still seems like he defaulted to his safe, familiar choice. The talent wasn't even close and that was obvious all along.

He said he was gonna trade Walsh all along, but I think his real plan was to trade the one who didn't win the job.

supplemental draft.

This one has a little something for everyone.

Punked by a mediocre Panther team.

This was pretty much when we began to fall apart.

Why was Walsh in the supplemental draft anyway?

He didn't declare for the NFL draft because he thought Jimmy would still be the Hurricanes coach. Then he decided to give up his final year of eligibility after Johnson left for Dallas.
