Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

The one thing where Javonte transforms from solid to great is that he’s a terrific short yardage back for his size.
Because he runs through contact. Which was my original point.

I think he absolutely can do it again.

I think, to Ravi’s point, it was even actually a quiet 1200 yards. You remember high impact Barber plays. Javonte just churned out 70-80 yards every week with consistency.

He's just a very solid back in compliment to a high end pass game. You wouldn’t want him in the Saquon Barkley “carry the offense” role but when you have the high end passing game, he’s basically perfect. Cheap, unassuming, productive, consistent, reliable.

Right, but Ravi is saying 'yeah but he's not Marion Barber.'

When did Barber ever carry the offense?

I don't think Barber has all these high impact plays that Williams is lacking. Unless I blacked out somewhere along the line and Barber carried us to a super bowl or something?

I think you're both saying the same thing. Or, I could be an idiot as usual and be completely wrong.

I wasn't here then, but what was the DCC consensus on starting Barber for that 2007 Giants playoff game?

I'll amend this, @Genghis Khan, to say Williams lacks the things that made us remember Marion Barber.

Production wise, Williams was sure and steady, though better to start the season, and more productive overall than Barber. He's just not, well, memorable.

I certainly don't want to come across like I hate the guy, Hell he was a major part of the offense last year and I'm grateful to have him.

I think Barber definitely had that spark play ability even when it was a 4-6 yard run sometimes.

Not saying he carried the offense, but he could be a spark even as a part time or part of a rotation back.

Javonte has now proven he can be the full time back. I don't think he impart that same spark, but, he's bringing a different quality that is also good.

And Javonte has SOME of that pop to light a spark. Just not as much as Barber did. But, Barber didn't ever have the juice to be a 1200 yard back.

The hits were great … but his inability to cover just about anybody killed us
And the hits accomplished zero.

If Woodson was next to him for another season or more, yeah.

But he was the tail end of the Boom safety.

At the end of the day, the front office failed him. They knew for a fact that Destiny’s biotch was robbing him of his precious bodily fluids and they kept putting the pressure on him to be more than a one trick artist.
