Cowboys Nostalgia Thread

@Smitty was at that game IIRC
Yes. Think I managed to spot myself on video as Roy ran by, I was lower level.

Think that was also the game where I decided to stop going to games in Philly because I wasn’t even wearing Cowboys colors and they still realized I wasn’t pulling for the Eagles and threw shit at me. I was like, fuck this, can’t even sit here quietly without harassment, assholes.

That pick 6 was fucking glorious.

The guy had a clutch gene.

Even when he started putting on weight and his play began to decline, the guy would still make big plays at big moments.

It's a shame he wasn't wired differently because if he truly loved the game and wasn't so thin-skinned, he still possessed more than enough talent to be a difference-making football player even as the game was evolving into a passing league.

His pursuit angles those first 3 years were a thing of beauty to watch.

I still remember your post game report!

I specifically remember you saying how whispering "please miss it please miss it please miss it" repeatedly actually works to have the opposing kicker miss FGs.

:lol

He was a lot of fun to watch. Javonte Williams runs a lot like him. Not quite as violent but close.
Huh. I saw the effort from Williams but nowhere near the same results. For a while there Barber had the whole league talking and truly earned the name "Barbarian"

I mainly remember Williams running out of gas a lot last year and hope his conditioning improves

Dude, he had 1200 yards at a 4.8 YPC clip. Barber's best year he didn't even break 1000.

Yeah yeah he was productive and he played for my favorite team and my fantasy team. We picked him up for a song and he over-delivered. Loved all of that.

He just lacks the high end punch Barber had. Beats Marion in top end speed for sure, and Barber always needed to share the load or he'd burn out himself.

The passion displayed on the greatest 2-yard run in NFL history vs New England in 2007, for example. That was inspiring-- we still lost the game to a better team, but man he and Witten were helping Dallas meet the Patriots punch for punch for a while.

I'd like to see similar signature plays for Williams

He runs to contact. He runs through contact most of the time. He is hard to bring down on initial contact. Like I said he reminds me of Barber. Not quite as violent but close. Which is what I said in the original post you quoted.

Looks a little like elevating a team favorite just to shit on a current player. And strangely enough it happens in reverse, too.

Why people do this, I have no idea.

So saying he’s faster and more productive but lacks signature moments is shitting on a guy?

What Williams highlight comes to your mind, like off the top? To me, the breakaway run vs the Jets maybe? Got caught from behind, but it would was nice

I get Ravi's point though. I appreciate JW's effort and the year he had, and I'm glad we got him resigned for such a good contract, but I don't think he's really that special and I'm not sure he can do that again.

Fortunately, he shouldn't need to, because the rookies from last year should be able to contribute something this time. What the team did to JW giving him almost zero backup last year seemed almost wrong.

You are going to get a scolding from Smitty.

I think he absolutely can do it again.

I think, to Ravi’s point, it was even actually a quiet 1200 yards. You remember high impact Barber plays. Javonte just churned out 70-80 yards every week with consistency.

He's just a very solid back in compliment to a high end pass game. You wouldn’t want him in the Saquon Barkley “carry the offense” role but when you have the high end passing game, he’s basically perfect. Cheap, unassuming, productive, consistent, reliable.

I don't disagree with any of that.

The one thing where Javonte transforms from solid to great is that he’s a terrific short yardage back for his size.
