Sharpe is 109th all time in receiving yards. Some dude named Eric Martin is 108th. Zack freaking Ertz will pass him next year.

Sharpe is 96th in receptions. Tied with Anthony freaking Miller. He's behind Keith freaking Byars.

Complete farce.

I get that injuries cut his career short. OH WELL.

At least with Terrell Davis you could point to impact. He was one of the main driving forces behind Denver winning back to back super bowls.

Sharpe won jack squat. He doesn't have the numbers and he's not part of the overall story of the NFL and he has zero high profile games.

Complete. Farce.

Pretty much.

Like with most things nowadays the voters have completely lost the plot.

I get that it's an analogy, but Sharpe wasn't even a Sims-level prospect, either. I still remember Parcells saying one of those years he worked for espn that Sims was the highest rated player he ever scouted and the only player he ever gave a perfect score.

And I really liked Sharpe. He was a badass. But yeah, not enough overall impact to be in the HOF.

I admit I didn't even know if Woody was a HOFer, but the last many years they've put so many Hall of Very Good types in, now he has to go in. The whole thing is a joke. I bet the true legends of the game shake their heads at some of the people they put in.

The Hall of Fame has been a joke for awhile but this is even bad for it's standard. The bar has been lowered to now it's a participation trophy.

If Darren Woodson doesn’t get in, then why just last year did Bryant Young in? Sam Mills before that?
This is apparently part of a new initiative just this year to make the classes smaller and the Hall more "Exclusive".

Then explain how a good but not great corner in Eric Allen makes it into that "exclusive" strata?

Eric Allen was NEVER an elite player.

He was really good CB, but that was it.

Woodson was twice the player that Allen was and it's getting to Drew Pearson levels of ridiculousness that he isn't in yet.

What sad is, we know with 100% metaphysical certitude that Eli will make it.

Voters say - Eli Manning “beat” Brady twice. Unspectacular career otherwise. Put him in the Hall of Fame!

Same voters also say - Tom Coughlin beat Belichick twice. Unspectacular career otherwise. Tom who?

He has that iconic interception return

That was it

[EDIT]

But... I guess if he's the Eagles' all-time best and interception leader then maybe (lucky for him the Eagles being in the Superbowl prolly swayed that vote)

I HATE how the NFL Hall of Fricking Fame is threatening to become this strange popularity contest for players that got talked up and called dominant on Sportscenter once or twice.

But if the narrative is QB's are measured by Superbowl and playoff success, then Eli (8-4 all time in the playoffs with 2 Lombardi's) belongs, and frankly Jim Plunkett (8-2 and 2) prolly does too.

It's the "dominant" door that good old "18 inches of daylight" Gale Sayers opened.

I gotta say though, Sharpe was insanely good. I always felt if Sterling had been healthy, he'd be up there with Rice in terms of receiving records because Green Bay passes so much.

Love how Kevin Smith just handled him in the playoffs. Another thing sbk92 always seemed to conveniently forget in his "CB's are bit players" argument

He was great, but not for long enough.

I couldn’t have told you who Eric Allen was even if you told me he was a CB
