In this situation, I punt. I said before to kick, but it was tied 0-0, you want points.

Here, you want to make a rookie QB getting his first action beat you down the field twice. Don't give him a short one. Just punt it.

If you go up 3 scores its game over. 2 scores and they still have a chance. That's why you kick the field goal.
