Cowboys at Chargers | Week 4 Game Day Chatter Thread | 09/29/2013

You said "If Garrett was so much better." I assume you meant "better than Wade Phillips." Everything I said in response to you was about why any coach is better than one of the worst coaches in the league.

The if he was so much better was in response to you saying the second half of that season proved he was, considering they started 1-7. You know that was what I was talking about as it is what I quoted, but choose to be difficult towards anything regarding Garrett.

I'm confused. Garrett going 5-3 in the back half with the same team Phillips went 1-7 with proved he was better than 1-7 (Garrett's subsequent 8-8 seasons have demonstrated this as well).

We got ourselves a good ol' fashioned Schmitty vs. DCC debate going on.

:towel

Well, you can pretend that's my argument, but since I've said that one coach is the worst and one coach is average, anyone can clearly see that I wouldn't say the same thing about Wade, and that is the crux of my argument: that the worst coach can be replaced by anyone and an average coach cannot.

It seems to me like an intelligent rebuttal would be to argue against the fact that Garrett is an "average" coach instead of trying to mock me about "well then why did Schmitty want to replace Wade Phillips without an all timer?" Clearly I have answered that question.

So actually, no, you can't, unless you're just spouting nonsense.

When a brand new head coach like McCoy schools Garrett with an undermanned team...there is no amount of lipstick left to put on the pig.
So again, how is Garrett not below average?

But Parcells wasn't here to sign off on those FA signings.

Was it ~gasp~ Jerry improving the team?

Did the Leonard Davis and Ken Hamlin signings make the team better? Yes, for 2007 they did.

They weren't great signings overall but they were part of the reason why 2007 was better than 2006. Jerry has always known how to throw money around though.

How come "auto-pilot" did better than the actual pilot?

Wade had the benefit of having Owens still in his prime, being a legit 3-4 coach (unlike Zimmer), having the 2005 draft class entering their prime, and most importantly, a full season of Romo. That was a team primed for a run. It's a tragedy that Jerry blew it by hiring Wade. Parcells in 2007 may have coached that team to the Super Bowl.

That's one thing we agree on.

As I and others have already said... That happens quite frequently when new blood comes in. A reinvigorated team, whatever. And like I said, the team all of a sudden getting turnovers didn't mean Pasqualoni was some kind of mad genius defensive coach, did it? And that had a LOT to do with the 2nd half turnaround.

And the subsequent 8-8 seasons have absolutely nothing to do with the 1-7 start to that team. Everyone knows that team had quit. It wasn't indicative of the talent they had or didn't have. They quit. When the coaching change was made, the effort picked up. And leveled out in our following seasons.

And soon enough, this 8-8 team will get tired of being 8-8 and quit as well with no leadership.

Wear that Cowboy apparel with pride, DCC'ers!!!!

:lol

But with Payton you actually get a creative mind.

I don't mind all the passing if you're creative with it and creating mismatches. Garrett is pass happy and unimaginative. That's a big difference between the two.

Correct. I would take Payton to run this team ten times out of ten. We saw last year the difference he makes, not just in being creative offensively but in actually running, preparing and motivating the entire team.

This week's loss to a sub-par team plus next week's eventual butt raping may be enough to send this team into full quit mode.

As much as I want to get rid of Garrett, I don't want to see this. That would be the same team of core players "quitting" in what? 4 years? They need to swallow their pride and play. If Garrett doesn't put them in position to win, changes will eventually be made.

That's your excuse, but i wouldn't call it a different argument and it is certainly not nonsense. Because I would say there's no functional difference between the two. Neither are good enough and both need to be replaced.

We you know what you have isn't good enough, you go try to find something better. You don't just wait for it to fall into your lap.
