If I were in one position or the other, I'd take the Cleveland job in a heartbeat. There are some pieces to work with there.

I wouldn't touch the Dolphins job. Too much disfunction.
 
 
Rams make quick hire, bring Gregg Williams back

That didn’t take long.

Within minutes of reports that the Rams were firing defensive coordinator Tim Walton, they have his replacement already.

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Rams are expected to hire Gregg Williams as their new defensive coordinator.

Williams was going to have the job two years ago before his NFL suspension, but came back and served his penance for a year with the Titans as a consultant.

Williams’s track record as an assistant (at least as it is confined to the play on the field) is a good one, and he added some credibility and edge to the Titans last year.
 
Dolphins announce they’re parting ways with Brian Gaine

Throughout the meandering search for a new General Manager in Miami, it appeared incumbent assistant G.M. Brian Gaine was interviewed as the fallback position, in case no one else wanted it.

Now that they’ve hired Dennis Hickey, there’s no room for him.

The Dolphins announced they had mutually parted ways with Gaine, after he was passed over for the job.

“I want to thank Brian for his contributions to the Miami Dolphins,” Hickey said in a release from the team. “We both agreed that this decision was in everyone’s best interests going forward. This will allow Brian to move forward in his professional pursuits and the Dolphins to move forward with our 2014 plan. I want to wish Brian the very best in the future.”

Such a split was inevitable, as the Dolphins try to bring their splintered power structure back together. Being too close with fired former G.M. Jeff Ireland proved to be a hurdle that was too great for Gaine to overcome.

Report: Browns hire Dowell Loggains

Mike Pettine has reportedly added someone to his offensive coaching staff, it’s just not clear what role Dowell Loggains would occupy.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Loggains has been hired by the Browns and will be on the staff as either the quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinator. Loggains reportedly met with the Browns on Thursday. Loggains was the offensive coordinator in Tennessee for over a year before being let go at the end of the season along with coach Mike Munchak.

The Browns have also reportedly spoken to former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, but Rapoport reports that he is unlikely to end up in Cleveland. Rapoport’s colleague Albert Breer reports that the team wanted to hire Bill Callahan as offensive coordinator and Loggains as quarterbacks coach, but the Cowboys have not allowed Callahan to look for employment elsewhere despite adding Scott Linehan to the staff to call plays.

Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo has also been in the mix and reportedly interviewed with the team on Thursday as well.

Report: Browns hire Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator

After a bad ending in Washington, Kyle Shanahan has landed on his feet.

The Browns have hired Shanahan as their offensive coordinator, Alex Marvez of FOX Sports reports.

Shanahan spent the last four seasons in Washington as offensive cooridnator under his dad, Mike Shanahan. Prior to that he spent two seasons as offesnive coordinator in Houston and was previously receivers coach and quarterbacks coach with the Texans.

In Cleveland, the big question is less about the kind of offense Shanahan will run than about whether they can find the right quarterback to run it. The most likely scenario is that they’ll use their first-round draft pick on a quarterback of the future, and hope he turns out to be better than their last first-round quarterback, Brandon Weeden.

Apparently Loggains is the QB coach, former Raven coach Gary Moeller is the OL coach and now Shanahan.
