It's not realistic to expect your first rounder to be an impact player? GTFO of here.

Actually, LT said impact player.

If Travis Frederick is an impact player, then Kony Ealy can be an impact player.

If Ealy is not an impact player, then Frederick isn't either.

It's my understanding that certain posters are claiming an 8 sack guy who bolsters the DL isn't an impact enough to justify the 16th pick. I would say it does, or at least it does in the 20s or 30s.

So unless the standard is superstar, then a guy like Ealy would be fine as my target at the end of the first. But Frederick isn't a superstar either and we love the pick. Ealy would be just as solid on the other side of the ball.

Call that what you want.

In any case, many years you are not gonna get a superstar type player at the back if the first and I'm more than ok targeting a guy like Frederick. Ealy is in that same tier. And actually maybe a little better.

Right, he did say that. Then you said it was not realistic. He countered that it was if you go BPA, then you stated it wasn't possible last year. That's when I said Fred was an impact first rounder last year and you upped the anti to perennial all pro. Then followed with the gibberish above.

Is it really that hard for you to admit when you're wrong?
 
Its semantics and besides the actual point of the debate.

My whole point is that a guy like Frederick is perfectly acceptable to target.

I called him not an "impact player" meaning that he's not an elite level prospect. Is it wrong to suggest Frederick didn't make an impact? Yes, but then, if you know me, you'd also know that of course I think having Frederick is immensely valuable.

So use a little common sense and read between the lines.

When I said it's not realistic to expect an impact player every year, and I cited Travis Frederick, who you know I like, clearly I'm meaning impact to mean a higher caliber player than him.

But again.... semantics.

My point is that a Frederick or Greg Ellis is a perfectly acceptable late first round target and it's unrealistic to expect more than that sometimes. Ealy is in that tier at least.

My gawd! How wrong I was, LT, to ever insinuate that Travis Frederick - a player who I actually like tremendously - wasn't an impact player last year. Terribly, horrifically wrong! No penance can make up for the magnitude of my error! I was so wrong! I'll never forgive myself for saying it.

That being said... Frederick's grade last year was really more of a 2nd rounder. He played extraordinarily well, but he was not a swing for the fences superstar caliber player, he's just going to be a solid long term starter.

Ealy can be that same caliber of player, but on the DL. And sometimes, like last year, it's not realistic to find a better player in the 20s or 30s than a Travis Frederick level player.
 
I love how pick 16 is the same as 30 in Schmitty's mind. Getting a player who can be more than a role player is IMPOSSIBLE at pick 16, when Bryant was picked at 24.

I never said any such thing, and there is certainly a long list of players I'd prefer over Ealy.

I'm just not gonna pretend that he's some scrub. Or that if you can't be a 12 sack a year DE than you shouldn't get picked before the 4th round.

Again, if you move down into the 20s, he'd probably be a solid pick. Never said he was my top target at 16.

If there is a Dez Bryant I'd draft him over Ealy all day long, except I fear that if I actually suggest taking an elite WR in Mike Evans I'll have to hear shit about that too.

Also... Ealy would as much a role player as Frederick is.... meaning solid starter.

So I guess NoDak agrees that some years you can't do any better than a Travis Frederick type player in the back of the first round since he has brought nothing to the table to refute it. Good to know.

With the way you love to change things and move goal posts around, there's no point in trying to "refute" anything.
