That was not a smart move by either guy, whether it had an effect or not. Perception does matter.

Lookit, I am just pretty pissed off right now. I am just tired of the same act.

But when I see this leadership, namely the players, like Romo, like Witten, doing the same shit they have always done, in fact, doing less by going on junkets to Durham for basketball games and yukking it up with ex-Presidents...it bothers me.

We have seen this for the last decade plus.

This is exactly where my infamous name for these guys came from, I'm sick of watching these bunch of fucks bumble around every year, piss away the division to literally every single other team in the division over the last 3 years and then go gallivant around like they're football royalty.

I don't agree with that at all. I think you're remembering Novacek with a nostalgic eye because he played on a winner. This team has more than it's fair share of problems. Jason Witten has never been one.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. The trip to Durham was to see David Cutcliffe. It just so happens that Cutcliffe was:

"Cutcliffe was instrumental in helping Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning rehab after his 2011 neck surgery. Cutcliffe, who worked with Manning on rebuilding his mechanics, could be doing the same with Romo."

Why wouldn't you want Romo to get advice on recovery from the same source? I generally take advice from proven sources.

He said Witten was the best TE in NFL history not just the best TE in Cowboys history, now I don't agree with that, but it doesn't sound like he was just being humble.

I'm as pissed as anyone at the way this team has performed over the years but to say Witten doesn't put it all out there like Haley is wrong IMO. I think he does play like someone just punched his granny.

I love Witten and he's probably going to be the only player from this core that I'll come away thinking highly of.

With that said, I still think he's been a disappointment as a leader because he had the skins on the wall in this locker room to have made a much greater impact than he's made. It's nice that he gets what it takes, but if he's not stressing that to everyone else on the team, and instead is making excuses for them, then all the good traits that he possesses don't really amount to much in the end.

Exactly.

When he first started with this talk about 3 or 4 years ago, I was pumped. I thought that the ONE guy from this core that I thought actually "got it" and understood what needed to be done in order to win was finally getting fed up and was gonna cut the nice guy act off and get his troops in line.

Well, here we are 4 years later and he's still doing it while still not actually changing how he is in the locker room or on the sideline.

After that, the act just becomes old and tiresome and you simply roll your eyes at it and see it for what it is - bullshit.
 
I don't think a TE is generally in a position to be the overall leader of a team, hell, Tony Gonzalez is probably the best of all-time, extremely hard worker, high character and this guy never won a playoff game until he was at the end of his career in Atlanta.

They just don't impact the game enough to lift up a team/teammates that are so deficient in other areas.

Some people say they wish we had a guy like Richard Sherman, well what do you think he'd be doing if Seattle didn't have a dominant pass rush and the best safety combination in the league behind him?

You think he could lift up a defense like what we had last year?

I'd love a player like that, but his impact is compounded by the fact that he has greatness surrounding him, he isn't lifting up a bunch of bullshit players or anything.

If Witten had been surrounded by a dominant OL/running game that would be one thing but I don't expect him to lift up an offense that has basically been just Romo slinging it around with a rotating number 1 WR until Bryant emerged, behind a shit OL with no running game and a novice coordinator running the whole show for the better part of a decade.
 
Sick burn...Romo should totally be watching tape in April.

I actually did see Manning at a Duke-UNC game with Cutcliffe. Just not with his head coach. And not jumping around like a buffoon, but that's just because Romo IS a buffoon and Manning is stoic. The behavior at the game itself doesn't say much about the inappropriate relationship.
