Everson Walls...the most underrated Cowboy of alltime.

#cornerwhore

Dude, there is no way I put Witten in the discussion of best Cowboy ever. This is a dumb conversation.

It really is.

Almost unfathomable how anyone could think it.

Best Cowboy EVA*

-* in this recent generation of malaise for the past 17 years, maybe.

Good for you?

As far as impact to the Cowboys success I will list my top 10:

1. Staubach
2. Aikman
3. Smith
4. Irvin
5. Dorsett
6. Lilly
7. Allen
8. White
9. Wright
10. Moose

I'd rank Witten over Johnston.

bump Moose for Harvey Martin

None of you guys saw a lot of the Cowboy greats. Bob Lilly for one.

bump Moose for Harvey Martin

That's close when talking about impact. Moose was key to our early 90's rings. So, in the spirit of players key to our success I have to rank Moose higher.

So were Novachek,Haley,Nate,etc.

I'd still put Martin in front. Other than that I'd be close to the same

My top 10 would be

1. Staubach
2. Aikman
3. Smith
4. Irvin
5. Dorsett
6. Lilly
7. White
8. Allen
9. Wright
10. Martin

I didn't actually pay attention to football when Lilly played because I was busy with blocks and such. I do known that he is top 10 for sure. I like Witten but for me he isn't in the top 10. My list is similar to JSmiths above except I have Irvin up a couple of spots.

Irvin to me is #1, but Staubach is probably the true #1 Cowboy of all time.

I loved Irvin so much just because I felt he represented everything (sans the off the field stuff, of course) that you would want a Cowboys player to be.

He was great, he was the ultimate teammate, he had the best work ethic, he played his best in big games, he was the definition of a leader, and he absolutely loved being a Cowboy. He was the epitome of what a Cowboys player should be, and that's why I like Dez so much.

Dez isn't quite on Irvin's level yet, but he's the closest thing we've had to Irvin in terms of encompassing all of those qualities.

Best Cowboy...or your favorite Cowboy?

Best Cowboy...or your favorite Cowboy?

Definitely my favorite, but I think he's legitimately #2 at worst because of all the qualities he possessed as a Cowboys player.

Staubach is the Cowboys to many people and he was a star in many different ways. I don't have to tell you all of the great moments he's responsible for, and being such a good guy, he is probably the one guy you want to be the face of the franchise from a player's standpoint. So it absolutely makes sense to place him #1.

I disagree. I'd have him 6th...and Randy White could push him to 7.

Say Romo wins one SB with the Cowboys this year...where does he jump to in the list? Does he become ROH candidate? HOF?

I think he is a top 10 type guy right now.

I'd go with a list like this:

1. Staubach
2. Smith
3. Aikman
4. Lilly
5. Dorsett
6. R. White
7. Irvin
8. Allen

After that you can make a case for Renfro, Hayes, Wright, Jordon, Ware, Howley, Harris, Martin, Witten, Pearson...and yes, Romo...to round out the top 10.

I also think 10 years from now we talk about Tyron Smith the same way we revere Larry Allen.

aikman is overrated for top cowboy. aikman's not even in the consideration for top 5 qbs of all-time.

i'd rank higher the players that are considered the goat at their positions.

staubach
lilly
emmitt
allen
manster/dorsett/irvin
wright/renfro
aikman
witten
