The false starts are bad. It's something that is completely avoidable. It's lost yardage for no good reason. That I put on Garrett and the coaching staff. Might also have something to do with the shitty pace at which we get plays called in and the length of time Romo spends at the line of scrimmage waiting for the clock to get to 1 second. The longer you make a lineman sit in their stance the more likely they are to jump early.

A lot of the false starts are precipitated by the constant milking of the play clock . The line gets antsy and the defense jumps around and baits them into moving. I have yet to understand the strategy of milking the play clock.

I totally agree. The funny thing is in 2014 we really got away from the milking the clock down to 0 seconds left. Then in 2015 it was like we went back to the same old bullshit. I have no idea why or what changed from one season to the next. But I think it hurts our offense in so many ways and sets the O-line up for failure. If you want a dominant running game with O-line firing off the ball the last thing you want to do is make them sit in their stance for a long period of time.

I think alot of it had to do with Romo changing plays/attempting to make up for the running game with the short passing game. The coaching staff needs to tell Romo to STFU with the constant gesticulating at the line, run the god damn play, let the OL do it's thing with whoever we have at RB and make plays off play-action once the defense starts to crash hard against the run.

And it wouldn't hurt to diversify our use of shotgun/under center formations and play action. The fact that we ran the ball like 85% of the time when under center and passed about the same % out of shotgun is a joke.

It's an idiot of an offensive "genius" failing to learn from the past. Sam Wyche tried this snap-at-0 crap with the idea that it tired the DL who had to remain in their stances for much longer over the course of a game.

Instead it completely siphoned away anything resembling rhythm from the offense.

Garrett is smart enough to make people think he's an offensive genius but utterly outclassed when compared with real NFL offensive coordinators.

I think your percentages may even be a little kind. There were games where we literally only threw from under center like 2 or 3 times if that. That's disgusting. What the hell is even the point of running the ball if you don't use it to set up the pass? The only time we really seemed to pass from under center was when Romo was in there doing audibles from under center.

@toddarcher: I like this question and it's something I wondered about when I wrote about DeMarcus Ware earlier in the week. Let's go with the thought that he won't be back in Denver for the sake of this question. Should the Cowboys consider him? Absolutely. Ware will be able to roll out of bed and get seven sacks. The Cowboys don't really have that kind of guy. The length of the deal doesn't concern me so much. The money involved would. Ware had 7.5 sacks in 11 games in 2015. And I can hear those screaming about Ware not fitting in a 4-3 scheme. Please. Let him rush out of a two-point stance if he wants. It doesn't really matter. He would be signed to be a pass-rush specialist and his snaps would be monitored.

I think he is just grasping at anything to justify his overall contribution (or lack thereof) for last season. It would be easier if he just said he tried to come back too early and leave it at that.

Yeah I think he took a lot of fan criticism for his lack of production this year. And honestly I think Dez's personally is in an uncomfortable spot because he has always produced at such a high level in the NFL. But the truth is we all know the injury limited. I fully expect him to be at or near the best of the best WR's in the NFL this upcoming season. Dez is the least of my worries.

When you are playing through a broken foot that needed more surgery I don't think that is grasping.:shrug
