Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence joined Ben and Skin on KRLD-FM 105.3. Here are some highlights.

On team's mood after injury to Orlando Scandrick

DeMarcus Lawrence: Orlando is taking it very well. We pray for him to come back real soon. The vibe wasn't different. Just some young guys going to have to step up. We're all rooting for him.

On the team's pass-rush abilities

DeMarcus Lawrence: Greg (Hardy) ... he's just violent. He don't care how he gets there, but he's gonna get there. Randy (Gregory) ... he's long, lanky. His first two steps off the ball ... you're gonna have to catch up real fast. I try to work on my fundamentals and my technique. We all got different styles but out for the same goal.

Why don't more teams rotate offensive linemen the way they do defensive linemen to keep them fresh?

DeMarcus Lawrence: This game is also about chemistry. I feel like the offensive and defensive line is the key to a good team. Without your offensive line, who's gonna protect the quarterback? Without your defensive line, who's gonna put pressure on the quarterback for your defense to get turnovers. You can't just throw anybody in there and feel like they're gonna be on point, they're gonna make the right move. You gotta work as a unit.

On his nickname, which is Tank.

DeMarcus Lawrence: I know coach Marinelli gave me a nickname. He calls me Deac. I think after Deacon Jones. That was my favorite pass rusher ... Deacon Jones.

Supposedly, it was testosterone he took at doc's orders when he wasn't in the NFL.

Have you guys watched any of those Deep Blue videos on DC.com?

I just watched the one on Romo and Quincy Carter. It was pretty interesting.

I got a good chuckle out of them trying to justify why they felt the need to reach for Carter in the 2001 draft.

But I'd say the most interesting thing to me came at the tail end of the video.

Darren Woodson said that back in 2003 he used to get frustrated because he felt Romo was easily the best QB on the roster. He said he told Romo and Parcells this. Said that while the first team offense had more overall talent, the defense got their best work of the week playing against Romo and the scout team because Romo knew where all of his receivers were and because of Romo's ability to read the entire field and look off defenders.

Woodson said he thought Parcells had the same feeling that Romo was the best QB on the roster but that FJ still wanted to bring Romo along slowly. Parcells was also interviewed for this piece and he pretty much echoed those sentiments.

Darren Woodson's comments reminded me of the middle school offense we had to run because of Quincy's inability to read an entire field.

Remember all the roll-outs to cut the field in half and 2-man routes that we used to run? All to limit the amount of information for Q-tard to process. :picard

He complained about the size of the NFL ball and had never developed the ability to throw over linebackers and in front of safeties-- and was handed a starting job.

Another case of ownership' s failure to admit a mistake and stubbornly try to exert their Will to keep from accepting responsibility.

ARLINGTON, Texas —

Jerry Jones intimated Thursday that linebacker Rolando McClain could start the season on the PUP list. The Cowboys owner, president, and general manager commented that linebacker would be a position to watch in the third preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings at AT&T Stadium.

"I would look to see how the linebackers that are the veteran linebackers but aren't considered the starters, because they've got some competition from other linebackers that aren't playing tonight," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. "And, so, it makes for a real interesting dynamic: the fact that they will be playing, but their competition could come from a player that we're looking at putting on PUP that may not show up for two or three weeks, that that will be competition going on out here tonight."

McClain and rookie offensive tackle Chaz Green, a third-round selection, are the only two players currently on the physically unable to perform list. Even in McClain were to avoid the PUP list, a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy would keep the fifth-year linebacker from making his Cowboys debut until Oct. 11 against the New England Patriots. If McClain were to go on PUP, he would be eligible to play Nov. 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

"Handed" is definitely the right term to use.

In the piece on the official site they made it sound as if Carter beat out all the other QBs to earn the starting spot his rookie year, but that's a load of BS.

I remember Tony Banks looking a lot better than Carter but Banks was the one who got cut. Banks wasn't a world beater by any means but he looked a lot better than Carter during the 2001 preseason.
