Jerry felt no need to load an interaction program into the Garrettron when he just has it sit and amuse Charlotte during the draft

There were a lot of changes during Garrett's tenure as coach regarding the coaching staff and scouting staff. The biggest one being Callahan coming on as OL coach. So, I think the change in direction came more from him than Garrett.

Maybe, but it's clear a shift has happened in this coaching administration.

I'm just glad it has.

Romo's contract has clauses that every March if he's on the roster guarantee him more of his salary the following year. He can't be a June cut until 2016 without taking massive dead money with nothing to show for it (assuming no more restructuring).

2016 should be a Romo-less year unless he's still producing at a very high (like pro bowl) level.
 
Can't you cut him in March and designate him a June cut? It's what we did with Austin.
 
This team takes the most asinine approach towards the QB position that I've seen in quite some time.

It really is fascinating.

If your QB is 34 years old, has a bad back and a spotty record in big games, wouldn't you want to look for new blood at the position? Wouldn't you openly root for a young guy to come along so that you could get away from Romo's bad contract sooner rather than later?

So I guess the Packers were grooming Aaron Rodgers for "someone else".

Same goes for Steve Young and the 49ers, Nick Foles and the Eagles, Tom Brady and the Patriots......yep they were all groomed for someone else. :lol
 
Young was in a totally different time, Foles is still on his rookie contract, and Tom Brady was a sixth rounder and still on his rookie contract. I get what you're saying, but those aren't very good examples.

How come they're not good examples? Also, them being on rookie contracts is my point.

Solid, productive vets were in place yet the teams still felt the need to draft a QB. Granted Young was a Bucaneer first.

Honestly, i think you have it backwards. You are pretty eager to attribute any positive development to Garrett.

Yes, we just started rebuilding the Oline under Garrett. Why? Because it just started falling apart right before Garrett took over. It was actually pretty good under Wade, til near the end of 2009.

Position coaches have always had Jerry's ear on draft dat. Funny I didn't see Garrett clamoring to rebuild the oline when he was OC.

Once took over as HC, the Oline was an obvious huge need. We were picking Tyrone Smith with or without Garrett. I don't think Frederick was a Garrett pick. He obviously wanted a TE really bad in the 1st last year.

This was an organizational shift due to circumstances, not Garrett.
 
And yeah, I think Garrett really believea 31 year old draft bust Weedon os their developmental QB.

I don't agree at all, the organization had a philosophy of addressing the position with no better than 2nd round picks, and largely aging FAs and middle and late rounders, for nearly a decade.

Someone got through to Jerry that it was ok, and in fact preferable, to use first round picks on offensive lineman.

The "circumstances" this year already weren't quite as dire as in, say, 2009, and we went back to first round OL yet again. Something has made him focus on building it specifically, he never would have done that in the past.

One thing that has changed is the CBA. You don't have to pay QB money to first round O-Linemen so investing picks in the line no longer means breaking the bank for them at the same time. It's cheaper now to draft them than to sign them.
