Supposedly LT is a competition according to Schottenheimer, I don't 100% believe it, but if Guyton looks like shit in TC and/or preseason I could easily see someone else starting the season at LT.

I just can’t see them not working the shit out of him when he is surrounded with question marks … he’s proved unreliable and not healthy so far …another science experiment gone bad in my opinion … if he fails in camp… cut the cord

Went back and watched Downs vs. Miami since we're about to start getting down to business here soon, thought it'd be a nice little appetizer for the start of TC.
Watching it live I remembered thinking Downs was playing out of his mind and going back to watch him specifically it really was an elite performance. After we drafted him I went back and watched most (maybe all) of his CFP games but purposely left this one for last given that it was his last actual college game. I said previously that some of his 2024 CFP games (Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Texas in the semifinal) were like highlight reels in a single game, and they definitely were, but despite the loss I think this might have been his best individual CFP performance, and maybe even his best game in college overall.
1st/14:45 - physical fill vs. run to lay a nice hit on Fletcher
1st/4:32 - excellent open-field tackle vs. Toney, breaks down well 1-on-1 in space and forces a fumble
1st/3:47 - very nice fill vs. run, gets first contact on Fletcher either at or behind the LOS, but doesn't finish the tackle because he went for the ankles, although it was still a short gain because he made the play to stop his initial momentum
1st/2:25 - another excellent open-field tackle vs. Toney, who caught the ball with a head of steam and Downs stopped him in his tracks
2nd/7:55 - crashes off the edge and works through traffic to tackle Fletcher for a short gain
3rd/6:05 - open-field tackle vs. Fletcher, who had a head of steam, as the last line of defense playing from a deep alignment, possibly saved a TD
3rd/3:53 - absolutely absurd play to again make a 1-on-1 tackle on Toney in the open field with a head of steam, forcing another fumble
4th/11:52 - similar to the play earlier where he filled really well vs. the run but went for Fletcher's ankles and didn't finish with the tackle, but the fact that he made the initial contact and slowed momentum right at the LOS led to another short gain
To really appreciate this performance you have to know that Toney was one of the most dynamic open-field players in college football last year, and was basically Miami's entire passing game, while Fletcher was a man possessed in the playoffs (averaged 6+ YPC against everybody except OSU, where he averaged 4.7) and will likely go in the first 3 rounds in the 2027 draft. But Downs was out there laying Toney out, forcing fumbles, and getting to Fletcher in the backfield to slow him down before he got started.
I mentioned previously that the one consistent weakness that I saw watching so many of his games is how often he goes low on tackles, which leads to a few missed tackles, and you saw some of that here against Fletcher, but aside from that it's pretty obvious that this guy is going to be an elite "big nickel" with his ability vs. the run very early on.

Hey, since Booze is lazy and won't do it anymore, I wonder if we can find someone (I don't know, maybe someone that may possibly have posted in this thread recently, but not real sure) to start writing Primers for the games? Because I'm quite sure that person (who may or may not have posted recently in this thread) would be very good at it. :)
