It's all gotten so ridiculous that I actually believe Schottenheimer will be gone at the end of the year barring them somehow stringing a few wins together (lol) and winning the division.
Or maybe it's just hope, but I think the embarrassment is just a bit too stark at this point.
Since 2000 the Cardinals were 1-147-1 when trailing by 14+ in the 4th quarter and the Cowboys were 69-0 at home when leading by 14+ points in the 4th quarter, entering today.
Why? So he gets fired and they do the right thing and go get a real head coach ? Particularly the one we should get .. but won’t because our owner is a decrepit ol liver spot with no knowledge of what he’s doing ? And we suffer for another 10 years?
So Jerry in an interview said “ It’s an indictment of the whole show.” But then supports visor boy saying “ the players let Schotty down “…It’s really hard to gauge the mindset of this bafoon when he makes comments like these.
Exactly what happened here. Schottenheimer was going to leave to call plays, they agreed to let him do that here instead (probably another of the sources of friction with Mike when he ended up leaving), and he interviewed so well they just gave him the head job.
I guess Zorn wasn't already with the team so that's different, but still.
You had people like Belt telling everyone that Schottenheimer was the one responsible for the offensive resurgence in '23 when we had that lull early in the year (when CeeDee got so upset) and they got back on track and had the great offense. Belt always claimed McCarthy was just a fat idiot and Schottenheimer was 100x better, more modern, related to the players better, super tight with Dak, etc. I'm sure this dipshit inbred family believed it all.
And to add one more thing... It's all ultimately on Jerry, of course, but Belt claimed also that this was mostly Stephen and McClay pushing for Schotty. Jerry was hesitant about doing it, which was another reason for the weird dance with Mike for that week or so. But those two convinced him.
The defense got 2 turnovers, including one that set up the offense 1st and goal at the 5. The offense scored 30 in part because of the defense. There's a stat going around that they gained less than 10 yards in 7 of 12 drives. That's unacceptable. If we moved the ball even a little bit on the majority of our drives maybe the defense isn't so taxed and maybe Arizona doesn't have enough time or enough drives to come back. The defense was a big failure yes, but so was the offense.
Then there's game management / coaching which I think is the biggest culprit for the loss. There are about a million things we could point to in that regard but I'll just point out that we had a 10 point lead with just a few minutes left, and a 3 point lead with the ball and a first and ten on their 20.
The coaching was the biggest problem. Both offense and defense were also problems.
