2026 Season | Week 8 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cardinals @ Cowboys | 11/01/2026

I just don't think people really appreciate how unprecedented the Schottenheimer hire was.

At the time I think most of us were just stunned and kind of willing to see where it went, but has there been a HC hire in the last 10 years as illogical as that one? In the last 20? Since 2000?

At least there was some sort of logic behind hiring guys like Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Matt Patricia, Matt Nagy, Nathaniel Hackett and so forth. Elite college coaches and coordinators of recently elite units on teams that had a track record of winning, all of which were getting interest and HC interviews around the league in some form or fashion.

I can't think of a single example of an anonymous coordinator with no significant recent success being hired as a HC after not receiving a single HC interview anywhere else.

He’s a retread without actually ever been a ‘tread’

Jim Zorn and Jeff Saturday?

I alluded to this in an earlier post but this was insane. Horrendous coaching.

It shows that Schottenheimer is just kind of an idiot.

He thought he was tricking Arizona by going with a heavy formation and then passing out of it, when it was obvious as day based on the timeout/clock situation that passing was a real possibility, if not the most likely call.

Just put your weapons in and hope it works out.

Garrett was book smart but just not that football smart, at least not at the level required to be a top tier HC/playcaller. I think Schottenheimer is both not football smart and just kind of an idiot in general.

Antonio Pierce, Singletary, Jim Tomsula

Most of those guys were interim then became the HC though I believe, Pierce in particular it felt like the organization let the players just kind of talk them into making him the permanent HC.

I guess the fact that those guys were already in the building and were "liked" for whatever reason, and promoted as a result, is the main parallel.

I believe they were all let go in just 1-2 years too, so we'll see if these losers have the sack to pull the plug after this abortion of a season.

Turd's regression has really hurt this team. Hyphen is a guy you can send into the flat, not down the seam.

In the more than 22 years we have been a board, I have never seen the board this quiet after a game, especially after a loss. Normally, when we lose, the board is 10 pages deep by the next day. I think there is a massive amount of ambivalence/give-up going on right now among most Cowboys fans. I know that's how I feel right now. I'm pissed and don't give a shit all at the same time which essentially results in ambivalence.
