2026 Season | Week 7 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Eagles | 10/27/2026

They're going to trade for Sweat and bench one of these useless edge rushers, maybe even this week since we play them Sunday.

They won't bench Gary. He plays like just as many snaps as Quinnen Williams.

Who by the way is starting to play like a badass despite the rest of the defense. Which is why I say there are bright spots. Just like Overshown today. Just like Porter Jr. since we traded for him. We have some dudes on defense. But poor scheme/coaching blended with just glaringly bad players is our problem.

I’ll take a win against the Eagles any time. I’m really pleased with the running game tonight. Some great catches. Defense looked bad a lot and made it worse with penalties.

Anyway, gotta beat the Cardinals next.

Good luck. We have lost 8 out of the last 10 against them. Plus we will be full of ourselves after tonight.

I think Gary has a little juice rushing the passer on the interior when it's like 3rd and 8+ but he seems useless doing anything else.

Having just one good starting edge rusher would be a huge upgrade, then you can stitch shit together on the opposite side with the trio of JAG's plus Lawrence.

And Williams has been legit all year for the most part, he's just starting to get the statistical production to back it up.

Yeah and the sad thing is there are bright spots on defense. But we keep marching out guys who outright suck. Rashan Gary for example has no business playing as much as he does. He is way worse than Lawrence. He is worse than Vonn Miller. He is worse than EZ.

But I swear to fucking God, every time we need a crucial play Gary is out their getting his ass kicked and out of position.

Same thing goes for Bell. Who can't cover shit. If I were a QB I'd just go for whoever Bell is covering.

I hope the were trying to ease Durant back from injury, otherwise I cannot understand why we kept trotting Bell out there in man coverage when our top 3 CBs were finally all available for the first time this season.

Yeah, this doesn't make me think this team is fixed. But it's not like losing gets us a better draft pick. That only get the Jets a better pick. So might as well fuck the Eagles up a bit.

Right now we would have been picking 12th and 20th.

I'm never going to complain about beating the Eagles in Philly, especially since it's apparently been 5 years, but the defense is just so atrocious it's hard to enjoy anything.

If Barkley had been able to stay in the game he might've outgained Williams, with a backup QB and down both starting WR's.

Parker is at best a bottom 3 DC and is probably the worst one in the league right now after Detroit's defense looked pretty solid against GB yesterday. It'll never happen but he should be gone and Pettine should be DC.

I wish I knew more about coordinating a defense so I could analyze what is happening better. I truly don’t think the scheme is awful but if it’s reliant solely on getting pressure then it’s not going to work. And that’s on Parker. Also if you can’t teach your dbs to cover their zones properly then that’s on Parker as well.

Every team can use more talent yet I see teams make players who I think are bad, still play good in the system. So yeah, it’s been a failure so far, for myriad reasons.

I say all that while I want to be a fan of Parker. It’s just not working how it should.

It seemed like they had Downs at safety more later in the game with Porter, Durant and Bland at CB.

With Locke back next week Bell should never be on the field again outside of ST's.

I can't stomach watching the all-22 of this defense but I think a good chunk of the issue is just a lack of being on the same page, particularly in coverage, and playing with poor leverage against ball carriers.

There have been so many plays this year where the DL gets decent penetration against a run play and there's just nobody there to fill the open space and finish the play for a loss, the huge Tampa run to start the second half was exactly that.

I think a lot of it is the back 7 taking poor angles to the ball, poor leverage based on the ball carrier's position, etc.

You know I want to too. I think the guy is stupid intelligent. He has coached with some great defenses. But at the end of the day the results don't look good right now. Maybe he just is too smart for the players and it's resulting in poor coaching. Or an inability to understand what the coach is trying to do. Some of the best NFL DCs aren't the brightest guys. They just know how to coach and get the right guys on the field.

We are missing the edge rusher to compliment Williams.

This is why I don't mind trading a 2028 pick for Sweat, he'll be around for the next 2-3 years and maybe we fire Schottenheimer at some point.

But they'll probably give up our 2nd in 2027 for him in return for their 2028 3rd or some shit.

I don't disagree. But I like what I see from Lawrence when he is out there. The guy seems to understand what he needs to do.

Then I watch Gary and I seriously wonder which dude is the rookie because Gary's edge setting is disgustingly bad. His pass rush is slow, lazy and just pathetic. I don't know how coaches can watch game film and go, yeah put Gary out there.

I can't imagine Thomas being worse at S than Bell, and he seems to make more plays on STs anyway.

I can't remember who I heard on the radio, maybe even a Green Bay media guy last week before we played them, saying that they were going to outright cut him and they couldn't believe someone offered a 4th for him.

There is zero reason for Bell to be on defense. Hell dude shouldn't have even made the team but snuck on as some "special teams ace". Even during camp he was called out for awful coverage repeatedly by media. Like how can we be so blind when it comes to some guys.

He is just bad. I get that he is a "leader" or whatever bullshit but he doesn't belong. Honestly, Vonn Miller doesn't look like he has anything left either. But those vets will never get the axe. Because they are somehow leaders.
