That’s what I’d say. He was absolutely told (correctly) that if the first read is not there, throw it away. We had no timeouts left. You absolutely can not take a sack. You absolutely can not try to extend the play going to other reads for fear of a holding penalty. Ten second runoff with a penalty or a sack ends the game before we can attempt a tying FG.

Yet we have morons blaming Dak for it. The problem lies with the play calling and the false start in that last sequence. But… Daaaak!!1! Durrrr
 
The sad part of it all is I think there's reason to be optimistic that the defense can get to the "average" threshold we've all thrown around since last season. The last play was horrendous obviously but we literally have 80% of our secondary out and are relying on practice squad types all over the field.

To limit the Ravens as they did despite the short fields and getting the 4th down stops that they got against an elite QB/RB was impressive.

Quinnen looked like what you expect, Barham is obviously a future cornerstone, even the secondary held up well enough until the last play, but none of that really matters in the grand scheme because this team has a hard ceiling on it thanks to having a bottom 5 HC in the league.

I started seeing cracks with Schottenheimer last year (the soft fumbles from Ferguson/Pickens, leading the league in penalties, the terrible ST's) and was curious to see what it'd look like this year, and after today I have my answer. He would've literally never been a HC in the league if not for the idiots running this team and I think some of us forgot that with how good the offense can look at times, but the bottom line is this guy is not NFL HC material and until he's gone the performance will always be worse than the talent.

Or he just did what his coach told him which was fucking dumb. How do you not let your 60 mil QB go through more than one read? Are you that desperate for overtime? Which you didn't even get because you fucked that up.

Yup that's right.... And I said as much when it happened.

There's no margin for error there so I had no problem with him throwing it out of the endzone there if what he wanted wasn't immediately available.

There's no good news, this team is cooked until Schottenheimer is gone and even then I'm sure Jerry will find a way to run a coaching search as demented as ever.

After Garrett was gone we interviewed Marvin Lewis and McCarthy, after letting McCarthy flail in the wind for a week or two we interviewed Leslie Frazier, Kellen Moore and Deion, before hiring a guy nobody else would even interview, let alone hire.

There is literally no hope with that sort of dysfunction at the top, short of having a literal all star roster like a healthy version of this year's Rams.

Thats the thing. If we were talking about Christian Parker I might say, young dude, first time play caller, he will get better.

But Schotty has been around for forever. And he is still making boneheaded decision. That's a guy who is just a bone headed.

I'm not mad, I just kind of feel bad for the players who I think got robbed by bad coaching.

You're not mad that we're in the exact same situation we were in during peak shitty Garrett years? Because our dumbass FO went ahead and hired a guy at HC no other team would touch?

There's a solid argument that Schottenheimer is worse than Garrett at this point.

If you made me choose between Schottenheimer and Parker as HC I'd take Parker 100 out of 100.
