I don’t think some of our players understand the defense yet. Blame it on whatever you want. It’s probably correct.

It blows my mind that a corner can't get these basic concepts. And what in the hell is the secondary coach thinking when he sees this. You're not just a robot in zone coverage dropping to an exact location at all costs, which is clearly what Bland is doing here.

The whole idea of zone coverage is you cover an area and you need to cover the dudes in your area, not just stand there covering no one like an idiot. If Bland can't figure it out I'd just bench his ass. You don't even have to be talented to do better than this. Like some nobody off the street can do this job better.

That's been talked about ad nauseum, but it's one of the most obvious examples of the secondary having no idea what they're doing, whether it's the players being idiots, coaches not coaching, or both.

They are. Looks to me like typical zone stuff. Maybe he dropped a little too far, but not by that much.

When was this? If it was before the half, I wouldn't be surprised if they were told to play conservatively.

Typical for how zone was played 20 years ago, if you watch Seattle or someone like that their CB's aren't leaving a 10-15 yard gap between themselves and the underneath defender as they run with their back to the LOS unless there's someone going deep behind them.

That sentence is way too long for a Longhorn fan to follow. Hell, even you probably had to use AI to get the sentence formed properly. :unsure

Well in fairness if the OLBer drops just a tad deeper he has a good chance of tipping or intercepting that ball. But it feels like a tough task for guys who are essentially DE's playing OLBer.
 
I went and looked at it, and literally the very next play, Durant is at least as far off on the same kind of out route on the opposite side.

I'm guessing they were told to play soft and not give up anything behind them with less than a minute left in the half.

Not saying that's ideal, just saying it's not unique. How many times have we seen this over the years/decades?

You shop in the bargain bin, you get leftovers and stale food. Thats the Cowboy way, and one of the reasons we haven’t won shit in 30 years. Jerry is never going to change his “way” of building a team.
