2026 Season | Week 1 | Gameday Chatter Thread | Cowboys @ Giants | 09/13/2026

The secondary was as lost as they ever were last year, and I think Bland might actually just be a moron in anything other than straight man coverage.

I remember when I questioned whether Bland should be automatically considered one of the starters and got a lot of shit for it.

Good times.

He had that magical season and was anointed. Other than getting hurt he hasn't done much since.

The only positive I can take from the defense is that it looks like they're at least capable of forcing turnovers.

We forced what? Like 4 fumbles?

Pretty unlucky to only end up with 1 one of them.

And then you have what should have been an INT that hit Durant square in the chest and bounced off.

So hopefully that's a sign that this unit is going to create a turnovers this season.....but even that won't matter if we're basically trotting out another version of last year's defense.

I'm not convinced it's something that they'll get consistently, but I do believe it matters if they get a lot of turnovers. Chicago has kind of a bad defense and they got pretty far living off of turnovers last year.

The problem is Revel didn't look any better.

Durant, the guy on a 1 year deal, might be the best CB on the team.

Sure, I'm just saying I think we overrated Bland going into the season. That's a spot we need to have our eye on for an upgrade at some point. The prevailing sentiment going into the season seemed to be that he was locked in as a starter and he shouldn't have been.

Of course the idea was supposed to be getting Revel in there and that doesn't seem to be wonderful either, but at least Revel is young. Bland is what he is at this point.

He's always been overrated.

Don't get me wrong, he is a solid football player but he's a #2 CB at best, but ideally, he's your nickel guy.

That sequence was the game to me right there.

If we go into the half with the lead, I think we do just enough to escape New York with a win.

Instead, we got the shitshow of a second half that we all witnessed.
Totally agree. At that point, we'd survived their opening salvo and had tied the game and settled in. We even forced a punt. :towel

I almost posted that giving up only seven points in a half made this defense feel like the 85 Bears compared to last year.

Then that play happened, they got a short field with the crowd fired up again, and things snowballed from there.

Also, I'm not at all sure those repeated busts were Bland's fault. On at least a few of those I saw him with the deepest receiver on that side.

I think most of those shorter plays on his side were for the nickel or LB. At least once I saw our man Barham late to the sideline, pretty sure this was after Overshown was out. Wouldn't be surprising if a rookie who misses some time in preseason was late to react when he's not the fastest guy to begin with.

One of the few positives from last night.

If that's how he plays all season, I'll be thrilled.

I think it's been fine all along. Not great but fine. Injuries have been the main concern with him. People have acted as if he's Chaz Green and he's never been anywhere near that bad. You'd like to see a little better but we've always gotten by ok with him.

Steele on the other hand...

I still think we're making all of this harder than it needs to be and not maximizing the overall potential of the unit.

Move Guyton to RT, Smith to LT, and let Bass play LG.

And tell Steele to GTFO.

His armbar choke technique worries me. Id much rather have him at RT and move Steele to asst. OL coach.

They weren't all his fault but some definitely were, particularly one of the chunk plays along the left sideline early in the drive when they were around midfield, and then the TD was mostly on him I believe.

I guess I don't understand how a corner can't understand proper depth. Like what kind of technique are we teaching these guys.
