2026 Random NFL Stuff Thread…

He is right about this, just like he is about Texas Tech.

I don't know how much I buy that. Even most practice squad players were badasses in college and played in front of big crowds, dealt with pressure, etc. They're on the practice squad now because they aren't big or fast or skilled enough for the NFL.

The exception would be the knucklehead types like our new all-world TE. Maybe something like that applies to them because they have a screw loose anyway. But that's not the norm.

Check out these badasses:

  • QB: Will Grier
  • RB: Malik Davis
  • WR: Jalen Brooks, Jalen Cropper, Traeshon Holden
  • TE: Rivaldo Fairweather, Princeton Fant
  • OL: Saahdiq Charles, Geron Christian
  • DL/DT/DE: Earnest Brown IV, Isaiah Land, Adedayo Odeleye
  • LB: Justin Barron, Buddy Johnson
    • DB: Alijah Clark (S), Robert Rochell (CB), Kemon Hall (CB)

Check out these badasses:
Will Grier threw for a zillion yards and TDs in college. I don't think he fails because he's scared and secretly only wants an NFL PS salary instead of a real one.

But the real point is, you had me fooled for a second that Jalen Brooks was back, you bastidge.

Why do you have one bullet point indented? Are they less important in your mind??

Your entire premise is built on Grier?

Okay, I'll concede maybe "badass" is too strong, but you think that's what holds these guys back, that they're afraid of a big stage? They were still all high achievers at one point. I think you could look at their size/speed/weight/etc. metrics and see that's what's holding them back, not attitude.

I think there is a physical toll component. Practices aren't physical in the NFL. Guys aren't really hitting in practice. I'm sure it's a lot less of a beating on your body to sit on the practice squad and collect a check. It's why the ultimate NFL job is like backup or third string QB. A lot of money and you really barely get touch most of the time.

I think Brady is overstating it a bit, but you can call it pressure, comfortability, fear ...whatever. There is certainly a mental element to playing in the NFL. And I consider that kind of thinking as a talent as well. Some good players want all the challenges, all the spotlight, etc. And I would wager a large majority of practice squad players don't, and aren't ready for those challenges. They are less talented in all aspects of the game including the mentality of dealing with the NFL spotlight.

In theory, good teams would have people that could help these players rise above that "good enough" mentality and actually contribute.
