2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Yea I'm not really worried about ILB because Downs is going to be in the box probably 75% of the time.
But, he is still right. He didn't say we needed ILB badly, just more than EDGE.

We have enough competent edges, what we need is an elite edge. I’m not sure Sweat is the ace though, he might be the Gary level compliment.
We’re projecting Gary with better production given the scheme, but unlike Gary, Sweat actually did put together his best year in 2025. Basically the iron is hot with Sweat rn.

I don't think Seattle has an elite edge.

I think if we're not going to have an elite edge, multiple good edges is a decent substitute. But I don't think I trust any of our edges outside of Gary.

So I'd love to have another guy.

Yeah, I'd certainly take Sweat on the team. He doesn't have to be elite. You don't need one guy who stands out above the rest. You need multiple guys who can all win in one on one situations when fresh. And then rotate them through.

With that being said, I'm not giving up draft capital of significance. He doesn't move the needle enough for me to do that. Not to say Sweat isn't worthy of say a third round pick. I just don't think putting him in a platoon with 3 other guys justifies that type of draft capital.

Seattle is what we aspire to.

They are superior because they:

1) have an elite CB in the secondary,
2) Have two of the top 15 edges in pass-rush win rate. Coupled with Murphy at tackle. Mafe (19%) DLaw (14%) Murphy (9%). Each percentage represents a major difference, and top edges are 5% higher than DT's on average. Seattle sacked Maye six times in the Superbowl.
3) Have multiple suffocating, highly physical LB's with really good depth behind them

Dallas, who had 2 of the top 20 in win rate at DT (Williams (14%), Clark(8%)) has a good starting foundation, though depth at DT falls off rapidly.

But at the edge in 2025 we had Ezeiruaku (12.6%, 3rd among rookies) whom they are praying Parker's scheme can unleash along with Gary (11.9%) and Malachi (?). Potential, potential, potential, but not much actually proven given overall capital spent.

At LB Dallas has Overshown, who's a shade behind Seattle's top two guys and Winters, who's about as good as Seattle's depth guys. Of course there's higher potential with Barham, and I won't even count James, though the team likes him FWIW.

Dallas was terrible in the secondary, has overhauled their Safeties and nickel, but is relying on Revel and Moore to back a bounce-back season from Bland (109 QB rating allowed in 2025). REALLY stretching the Parker-Football-Guru angle, here.

Dallas is lacking a featured Edge and even if the Edge-by-committee is decent enough we have no stopper at CB.
