2026 Random Cowboys Stuff Thread...

Jackson is probably better than everybody outside of the top 3 to be fair, although it's really top 4 because Downs is our slot CB.

Yeah and you're kind of banking on Moore developing his physical talent. Rookies are almost always behind vets at the start of their careers. There is no shame in it.

I'd rather take someone that I don't already know is kind of a shitty player. But I get it. Just not my preference.

or they could have signed him earlier to a much cheaper deal and tried to build a defense around him.

I'm glad it's worked out well for the team, but he was very open early on to signing a new deal while they stood around jerking each other off.

I don't know if it ever would've been significantly cheaper, if they had signed him in the summer of 2024 I'm guessing it'd have been basically the same sort of deal roughly.

nothing to see here, just a double post.

has the site been slow for anyone else?

it takes forever to open a thread and then posts just never show up unless i hit refresh.

you don't think he'd have signed that summer?

he was waiting, they were bullshitting, and of course when you wait another year the price is only gonna go up.

My biggest problem with Parsons is that he preached over and over that he didn't have to get the top of the market deal, then threw a hissy fit when he wasn't offered the top of the market deal.

Fuck that guy.
Again, I'm glad the approach has worked well for the team.

I love Quinnen and Clark, but it's a shame they couldn't build the defense around Micah.

He enetered the league as an impact all-around LB and they pigeon-holed him into a full-time pass rusher to save their ass.

What happened to Seatbelt? Hurt again or just still sucking?

Not sure, his first preseason game penalties left a bad taste in fans mouths. But I think the PI was bullshit. Other than that I don't know how he has been doing.

It's hard to isolate what should've been the logic at various points in time and then back that out from how you know things played out afterwards with injuries, extensions and such.

I agree that they should have signed him in the summer of 2024, but I don't think it would've been significantly below 40/year. Bosa had already signed for 35 I believe, so you'd be looking at 36 at the very least, and easily upwards of 37-38/year given how Parsons obviously wanted to command absolute top dollar.

It would've been ideal if they had done that and then shown serious dedication in upgrading at DT, although we know that we ended up extending Osa for 20/year in the spring of 2025, so how much could we really have dedicated to DT in terms of cap space?

If you compare it to the current cap allocation, Parsons and Quinnen would've more or less cancelled each other out, and Osa and Clark cancel each other out. So we'd have Parsons and Osa instead of Quinnen/Clark, while presumably being able to use the cap space we used on Gary to try to upgrade DT, although in that scenario we'd still be left with two very light in the ass edge rushers in Parsons and Ezeirauku who would probably struggle a bit to set the edge.

I could sit here and parse out every move, argue that we should've signed this FA or that FA instead of extending Osa or Bland, but obviously that's not realistic. Yes, they should've signed Parsons a year earlier at a slight discount and done more to beef up the run defense, but even if they would've done that I don't think there's any guarantee that the defense would be better off than it is now.

The real bottom line, knowing everything that happened before and after the trade, is that I wouldn't trade Parsons for Quinnen straight up right now due to the ACL, and if Parsons would've accepted the 5/200 deal last summer the defense wouldn't be as talented on paper as it is right now.

Maybe stuff like his attitude, pod cast, etc… was wearing more thin behind the scenes than we knew.

Hell of a player but it felt like the defense sort of had a cap of how good they could be with him.

We missed him badly last year and it showed. But oddly enough it feels like the defense now has a higher cieling filled with guys that have a like minded attitude working as a complete unit. I guess we will see what the reality of that is once the season starts.

Parson was always an amazing pass rusher. But he wasn't a leader and I don't know that he ever really played within the confines of a defensive system. He was basically a full on freelancer.

People forget that the defense was struggling hard under Zimmer before Parsons left, and had one of the worst defensive performances I can remember against the Packers again while Parsons was still here.

They badly needed an overhaul whether he was here or not. They still would have been bad last year even if he was here.

Parsons was a microcosm of those 2021-23 defenses, very high reward but also very high risk. High ceiling, low floor.

It's why you had wild swings with games where things would go their way and the snowball just wouldn't stop going downhill, but then others where the opponent would stay balanced and they'd inevitably give up big plays and struggle to generate the explosive sacks/turnovers that they'd get when we'd have a big lead.

To me defense is kind of about mitigating risk and playing the odds, not just constantly going for the gusto by flying upfield aggressively, but that's largely how Parsons and those defenses played.

Of course there will be times where we miss the explosive pass rush, but over the long run I'd rather have a fundamentally sound defense that can consistently stuff the run, put teams in bad down and distances, and play the odds.

I was excited when we got Parsons. I was also okay with trading him. And, now, I am very happy we traded him. Not just for the return we got, but he now seems injury prone, and he seems to be the football equivalent of a staph infection in the locker room.

Yep, the problem was last year we weren't fundamentally sound and we lacked his explosive pass rush.

But the defense needed rebuilt. It's significantly different than it was last year. And I feel pretty confident in saying it will be far better coached this season and more disciplined. I honestly don't see the point in hating or morning Parsons. He was a hell of a pass rusher. But now lets go be better than we ever were with Parsons.

Dallas Cowboys

The coaching staff might still be holding out, but in my opinion, Joe Milton III already won the backup job. Howell has duplicative skills of numerous other quarterbacks who bounce around the league. He’s a practice squad candidate rather than an initial 53-man guy. Or maybe I’m just anti-Sam.

The addition of Von Miller pushes one of the incumbent edge rushers off the roster. I think James Houston’s pure rush ability keeps him on the club. Between Williams and Marist Liufau, I lean toward Dallas keeping the latter, who is a better special-teams player.
