2026 OTAs and Minicamp Thread...

The longer he played the worse it looked. But right now he is also probably the third tackle. Which isn't really bottom of the roster either.
He's better than the very bottom, which is the churnable folks, but not by a lot.

Call him a developing player (aren't they all though?).

He looked good at times last year, and also got absolutely destroyed when asked to start or play extended time at LT.

In large part because of these poor showings, our offense had almost no chance to compete in those games, especially given how bad the defense was.

He was not ready then, and it's scary that he's actually got a chance to earn the starting spot for real.

EDIT: And I'm a Thomas fan!

I don't think Thomas has any shot of being the starting LT unless there are injuries or he takes some sort of quantum leap.

Either Guyton steps up or it'll be Smith with Bass at LG.

What stood out most listening to Schottenheimer is how he described Parker's scheme, mostly because it's exactly how I assumed the philosophy of it would work, coverage-wise especially.

Pre-snap alignments in the secondary generally all look the same with a loose umbrella cover-4 looking alignment so that you can mix and match post-snap movement into different coverages without giving it away pre-snap. It sounds simple but that's the gist of what makes Macdonald's scheme so good, Fangio's and so forth.

The rub of it all is being able to teach the players the nuances of the different coverages, how to not tip what you're going to shift into, how to play the different leverages based on the offense's alignment vs. the coverage you're in and so forth.

He also mentioned several times how philosophically the pass rush will be more focused on the group and depth than 1-2 stars, which is exactly how Philly and Seattle have built their defenses over the years. If anything those teams have focused more on finding the interior pass rushers while going with depth and waves of guys off the edge, which is how we're situated now with Quinnen as the centerpiece.

I hope he threatens to beat Guyton with his leg arm brace if he doesn't toughen up.

I guess I'm in the minority but I think he plays better than Steele. Certainly in terms of pass protection I think he is better than Steele.

If I'm worried about creating a competition I think Steele is closer to the starter I want to dump than Guyton. But I guess he stays healthy at least.
Yeah I am not enamored with Guyton but he’s started when healthy. Mazi couldn’t even make it into the rotation.
