2026 NFL Draft Chatter

Sheesh, I love Styles as much as anyone, but it’s underwear Olympics with a lot of these ‘scouts’ entranced by measurables.

Being a freak is not a thing that’s important in sports.

David Bailey was the best defender in college football. Player > Athlete, but folks start to forget that when it comes to the draft.

I’m with @NoDak—the fing draft can’t get here soon enough.

Styles is a great player, in games. Let's not pretend his measurables are the only thing elevating him. I feel in love with Styles when I was watching Ohio State back when the Downs hype was at a fever pitch. I kept thinking while I watched, I think I like Styles better. I'm sure I'm not alone.

This was before the combine.

What an absurd thing to say. Of course it's important. It's not the only important thing or even most important, but it certainly matters.

Very debatable. I don't think he's even the best defender in the draft. He can be run on a lot easier than Bain. He's not as dynamic as Reese.

Player > Athlete

Sure. But you'd like both. Unless you're suggesting Styles is JUST an athlete?

More of the Cosell interview, and what Tucker says at about 11:20+ is all I (and I think Ravi) am saying. Plus some JRod porn talk for Cotton right after that also.

He also compares Anthony Hill to... Kenneth Murray.

Where do you fit arm length into that conversation. This year really feels like the year of great production, great athlete. But damn these arms are a half inch too short. Feels so weird.

Arm length is important but the only reason it's talked about so much this year is because Bain and Howell are historical outliers, like the biggest outliers in 20-30 years, that's notable.

Brugler on the Fan yesterday.

Yeah like I said I love Styles, but his being a freak didn’t translate into the Buckeyes winning a championship. Ultimately people get too excited when they see such elite measurables. Being on a nationally hyped team also contributes to the frenzy.

Styles ran a 4.46, Allen a 4.47, Hill a 4.5, and Rodriguez a 4.57, and that happens to be the order in which the players are ranked (except Brugler who has Rodriguez before Hill), even though on-field production was literally in the reverse order.

He was one of the best defenders on the team when they won the title the year before.

I don't think they were referring to Styles. Notice that Cossell was pretty complimentary to Styles just prior to Tucker mentioning what he did, and then Cossell directed the discussion to Rodriguez.

Ravi seems to be suggesting that Styles only rates this high because he's an athlete and I don't think that's true. Even before the combine he was talked about in the top 12 or higher.

In the Indiana game that Simp posted the other day on Styles, in the middle somewhere there was a pass play where Styles is sitting in a zone in the middle of the field watching Mendoza and then suddenly slides to the flat right before Mendoza looked there, and it led to a sack since Mendoza's dump off was covered. Styles won't get stats for that but that's high level recognition.

Should we only draft from Indiana this year?

By who? A lot of people have different rankings. I personally think Styles is above the rest and have the other three about even.

The funny thing about this discussion is that it's really Rodriguez and Hill whose stock jumped up after the combine, not so much Styles.

Not sure what you mean here? Referring to Styles in what way? I agree they were both very complimentary of him.

Meaning Tucker's rant about how important recognition and smarts are as opposed to athleticism came right after the Styles discussion. I think that rant was incidental to the Styles discussion even though it came right after.

I thought you might be implying that they were saying that Styles is the guy Tucker was referring to being an athlete and not a player.

No, I didn't mean to imply that at all. I don't think he was referring to anyone in particular there.

Yep, I posted the consensus rankings earlier and its Allen, Rodriguez and then Hill but all 3 of them fall within like 5-7 spots in the second round of each other. So you're talking about a grouping that is very tight with each other.
