Apples and oranges. And, no one said we have to have defense "at all costs". But, FA is a different animal than the draft. This year we have 4 picks in the first 5 rounds. Meaning we only have 4 shots at getting that right. In FA there is a crap ton of players that will be available. We have to just be good at getting the right ones. And, if we can get a couple of holes filled on offense in FA then we can even more so focus on defense in the draft. And I'm not at all saying ignore defense in FA. I'm saying FA might be our best shot at filling what few holes we have on offense.

It just seems backwards to say defense, defense, defense in the draft.

And then talk offense in free agency. You are only going to spend so much in free agency, I want to focus that money plugging holes on defense so that I'm not worried about a draft pick carrying the defense.

I think all of our opinions on the draft is predicated on what we do in FA, like it should be. Problem is, this organization has shown a propensity to not do shit in FA, so planning for the draft you plan accordingly. Or, in our case, talk about it accordingly.

You're not in control during the draft of what players will be available at the picks you have. You're not in complete control of trading down or up.

In free agency you are in total control. I'm ok if every free agent is on defense.

If we get him I think it will be a massive indication that we (the FO) may have turned a key corner in how we operate. I might finally have hope again.
